Seems to me everyone agrees that everyone should have healthcare. Seems to me it makes sense that SOCIETY should ensure that it happens. Seems to me that any attempt to have PRIVATE insurance companies "broker" the deal between a patient and Doctor is like asking some-one to "please steal 30% of my money". Seems to me if anything should be "socialized", it should be health insurance - Medicare for all.
Those that are against this idea, are not really against having a healthy society. It seems they are against the thought of being forced to pay for some-one else to be healthy. This to me is one of the sickest forms of greed and selfishness. Many of these people will, of course, donate to some worthy healthcare cause and insist that public donation could supplant public funding, however they do not want to formalize any type of commitment "through progressive taxation" to support the effort. They want to maintain the right to "keep their dough" once the spotlight is off them.
So essentially, those that do not support public funded healthcare (through progressive taxation), are essentially trying to really fight for their right to be selfish, greedy human beings (with snouts).

There were about 4? soldiers that went missing in Iraq sometime ago. Not sure if last year or the year before. There was an all out effort to find them that was not successful. So the issue was just shoved under the carpet. Apparently, one of the soldiers was an alien using his service to get citizenship and his wife was being threatened with deportation.
Has anything been heard of since?
I asked once before on another show but still haven't gotten any response.
Does anyone know if this was ever resolved?

Two other soldiers have been listed as missing/captured during operations in Iraq.
Spc. Ahmed K. Altaie, 41, was abducted by masked gunmen in a Baghdad neighborhood Oct. 23, 2006, when he left the fortified Green Zone to visit his Iraqi wife. (translator from Ann Arbor, MI)
The soldier missing the longest is Staff Sgt. Keith M. Maupin, 23, who disappeared April 9, 2004, in an ambush on his fuel convoy.
Also, I have heard that some contractors/Haliburton/KBR people are missing too. What happens to those since they are not 'counted' as part of the US troops?

Can someone explain to me how raising the cap on Social Security "hurts small business"? I have heard Hillary make this claim in debates but cannot get my head around how. I assume most small businesses already pay the full benefit on their employees total wages. Rough math tells me removing or raising the cap effects people earning more than $45/hour. I don't know of many small businesses that pay those wages. And, a small business that pays that wage would certainly not be fatally hurt.

There are up to 4.2 MILLION CCTV cameras in Britain - about one for every 14 people.

Cameras that recognis registration plates is used for speed cameras, traffic enforcement cameras and in London's congestion charging zone.
SHOP RFID TAGS
Tags are either active or passive. Passive tags can be small, with no antenna or power source they are little bigger than a full stop. With an antenna, they are the size of a postage stamp. These passive tags need to be scanned by a radio reading device to reveal their information. Active tags are much larger, battery-powered and with a lifetime of up to a decade. Often used to track items such as freight containers, they have a range of hundreds of metres.
RFID can be used to monitor every object bought from a shop. In 2003 when an RFID tracking system was used in the packaging of Gillette Mach3 razor blades to stop shoplifting at one of Tesco's Cambridge branches. Anyone picking up a packet of the blades triggered CCTV surveillance of themselves in the store.
MOBILE PHONE TRIANGULATION
As well as being used to monitor unfaithful spouses, the mobile phone has had a more direct application in crime-fighting. In addition to requesting lists of calls to and from suspects mobiles, the police now frequently use mobiles' communication with different masts to triangulate the position of a suspect.

McConnell gave details of a proposed cyber-security policy which will closely police internet activity.
Lawrence Wright, the article's author, claimed that Ed Giorgio, a former chief code breaker at the National Security Agency who is working with McConnell on the plan, had told him that this would mean giving the government the authority to examine the content of any email, file transfer or web search.
"Google has records that could help in a cyber-investigation," said Wright. "Giorgio warned me that 'privacy and security are a zero-sum game'."
McConnell, who keeps a clock on his desk counting down the seconds of the Bush presidency, admitted that the plans would be a tough sell to the legislature but insisted that they are necessary.
"My prediction is that we are going to screw around with this until something horrendous happens," he told Wright.
Wright suggested that this kind of monitoring is already going on. He spoke to an AT&T employee, Mark Klein, who claimed that he installed data switching systems in the company's exchange that copied all internet traffic to the National Security Agency.
"I know that whatever went across those cables was copied and the entire data stream was copied," said Klein. "We are talking about domestic as well as international traffic."
He added that previous claims by the Bush administration that only international communications were being intercepted are not accurate.

Where military items are assets -- the National Guard -- has already been raided in many states. The planes, tanks, jeeps, and other equipment has been shipped to IRAQ! How likely is this to ever be brought back? Not very!
Halliburton and KBR may be trashing and burning assets that fall into disrepair, etc., but that also occurs with military equipment that goes overseas! You see movies with bulldozers pushing equipment into the ocean or into quaries for disposal from previous wars!
So who will pay for that?????

Thom, you keep repeating that Michigan's un-committed delegates will vote for either Edwards or Obama at the convention. While these were anti-Hillary votes during the primary, Hillary will be able to "win" some or all of these delegates at the district conventions. A strong Hillary supporter turnout at these conventions, where the delegates are elected, can steal the un-committed delegates.

The falsehood is the un-committed delegates will be for Edwards or Obama. This is what Thom stated. These delegates will be selected at the district conventions by a popular vote of those in attendance. This means the un-committed votes can and probably will go to Hillary since she will already have a large group of supporters there to elect the +50% delegates she won in the primary.
Technically, any delegate can vote however he/she cares at the convention. But, once a delegate has been elected to represent a particular candidate, it is unlikely that delegate will vote for another candidate unless instructed to do so.

That doesn't add up either.
According to CNN's polling of the super delegates:
Hillary has a total of 36+ 174 Super delegates = 210
Obama has a total of 38 + 85 super delegates =123.
But it's pointless to add those in since they can change their mind any time before the convention and because there are over 700 super delegates and only one third have made their intentions known.

They included two sets of totals one with sanctions and one without. Thom quoted the totals from the set WITHOUT sanctions. i.e. he was including the Michigan primary. But the Democratic party has invalidated that primarty and have said they won't recognize their delegates.
No other news organization is reporting a delegate count without sanctions. I think that if Thom is going to do that he needs to have a caveat.

The initial plan was to stabilize and let the International Aid organizations come in and build schools, wells, roads, etc. Only problem was that only one city ever stabilized! The International Aid organizations never got an opportunity to help! We should have been out within months - not going back and forth between Iraq and Afghanistan.

This is an astounding article.
I've always felt disgusted with "white flight" and thought only individual racism was the cause. But this article clarifies that "white flight" was disgustingly economically engineered by a handful of racists making financial policy!
What a terrible loss for our entire American culture as well. From the viewpoint of art history, I've wondered how Americans could let their art and architecture, gardens, public parks, etc. deteriorate and decay and disappear (completely disappear save for the heroic efforts of historic preservation groups) compared to Europe that still enjoys its vast cultural legacy. This decay of our American towns and cities only happened because of this policy of denying funds to areas where a racial mix happens! This is an immeasurable loss to our entire society, something that makes each subsequent American generation of all races that much more barren of a joint cultural heritage and identity!
I learned a lot from this article.
