So many of the government statistics that have been produces over the past six years, especially economic statistics, have been corrupted in one way or another. Would it be possible to pass legislation requiring all government agencies to review statistics they have released since 1980 and restate them to a common and consistent basis, And further, require that any future changes in the way statistics are calculated include a restatement of historical statistics?

because CNBC is running an ad during ThomTime, with 3/4 of the duration chatting about the Joy of Baby Einstein...

hum. the same Baby Einstein that featured in a SOTU...

:shut: the same Baby Einstein that has a similar 'we don't need personal interaction, chuck 'em a video' methodology that Neil Bush pumps out for 'Developing Communities' in North America? ("this part of the World", eh?)

think about it.

now, somebody should be making a few phone calls about a nested ad with a very clever 'chatty' person-to-person format that has little to do with CNBC (unless their executives invested or have social relationships with Baby Einstein executives...) & a lot more to do with a company currently being investigated for product fraud...

is Thom aware that this ad runs during his time slot?

When Cindy Sheehan beats Nancy Pelosi in the next election. I don't think Cindy would worry about 'having enough votes.'

 In Wisconsin, people are so fed up with Rep. Sensenbrenner (who just won his 4th lottery ticket prize), that 2 professors are running against him together.  They are friends who are a moderate D and a R, sharing campaign funds, etc. -- just to get rid of ole Jim.

Thom, has this tactic ever been used before for in an election?
I think you should get Walsh and Burke on your program; maybe spotlight a feature of unlikely nonpoliticians who are running for political office (Cindy Sheehan would be great too). Paul Riekoff, anyone?

Well the much ballyhooed Petraeus is almost here.  But, oh wait, it is not going to be a written report, oh no, just some sort of verbal report which will be spun later as misinterpreted or he mis-spoke on that issue. So essentially he can say what ever he wants and they will just fix and spin it later.  $97 Billion and 6 months and we can't even get a written report????? What's the matter, didn't they have enough time or money to hire a clerk at $7/hr to get it done?

Let's get serious anyway.  The Democrates are so pitiful they spend billions of our dollars and thousands of our military's lives to get something that is guaranteed to be a joke from the start.  Let's try something really revolutionary here and apply common sense to this whole issue.  OK, here we go, pay attention as we put this into terms the average person can relate to.

Your company comes to you and says we want you to come up with a plan to save the company and then you will be responsible for implementing the plan, and finally we want you to come back in 6 months and tell us how your program is working. Duhhhhh, how many people are going to come back and say "Well you gave me 18 goals and I barely made 3 or 4 of them, and if you just look at a matrix of basic business measurements we have not improved on any of those and have actually shown many of those measurements have become worse.  And I know you gave me the money, tools, and personnel to implement my plan 6 months ago, but I'm going to claim a muligan on the first 5 months and say they don't count because I feel that we didn't have 100% of those things available until maybe a month ago. So overall I guess I would have to say that I had a reasonable plan and I tried my hardest but I have to admit that it is at best barely managing to maintain the business at the level of 6 months ago and at worst it has been a total waste of the money and personnel you gave me."

Right like somebody is actually going to say that about THEIR plan. 999 people out of 1000 are more likely to say something like this.  "Well, we have faced many difficulties but we have persevered and hung in there with our plan.  We have seen some real progress in many areas and feel it is just a matter of a little more time before we turn this whole thing around.  I'm very pleased with the hard work our employees have shown and feel we owe it to them to continue on this path to success and not promote failure.  Just give me 9 more months and we will really see some progress now that we have the plan in place."

Of course the company unlike the government does not have bottomless pockets so 3 months later after the board approves another 9 months the company goes bankrupt and on its way down the tubes makes sure to release a press report stating it was the employees fault that we failed and the stockholders who didn't have faith in our plan.

Of course the Iraq occupation won't go bankrupt, it will just take our money from health, education, and the environment and continue to kill our youth.  A small price to pay for uh... for a... wait I almost got it... its for our childr... uh no not that... maybe for our safet...oh no not that either...maybe ummm... well I'll just get back to you. 

The article in the Oct. issue of MOTHER JONES ("Hillary's Prayer" by Kathryn  Joyce and Jeff Sharlet) has given me renewed belief in intuition:  Surely this could be the reason behind the distrust I and and so many have been feeling about Hillary; perhaps we sensed her creepy concealment of fundamentalist agenda items!

Hillary's membership in the secret prayer group, the Fellowship, has made her "secret prayer pals" with other Fellowship members like Rick Santorum, Bob Bennett, Mark Pryor, George Allen, John Ashcroft.  Yikes.  Her Fellowship guru is evangelist Doug Coe.  Yikes.

For me the key observation about the Fellowship and Hillary in this article is this:  That the Fellowship peddles political transcendence of reactionary and progressive positions via faith-- BUT the faith is ALWAYS evangelical and the the politics always moves to the right as a result of Fellowship influence. (paraphrased from the article)  The Fellowship poses as an apolitical body, but it clearly is not.

If Hillary Clinton is in "spiritual war" on behlf of Christ (!), I want to know WHO ARE HER ENEMIES?  I sense here that there are two kind of Crusades for these reactionary fundamentalists: The Foreign Crusade against other religions abroad and also The Domestic Crusade against  secularists in the USofA.  Both these crusades are unacceptable to me!

I didn't like Hillary before because she is a Corporatist to the point of favoring the advance of corporate agendas over the people and our Constitution;  the Clintons' promotion of WTO  and NAFTA et al proved that much.  But in addition, Hillary obviously supports the demise of Separation of Church and State.  Just like the fundamentalist religious radicals she hangs out with in the Fellowship, she pursues this under the radar; she does not speak to the American People as a whole about her intent as she should; she'll chop away at Separation of Church and State but will she ever make her position clear through a POLICY POSITION stating her intent clearly?  If she were an upfront person,  she would make it clear to voters that she intends to allow scripture to be taught in all schools, etc., but she's not upfront.  I don't think Hillary Clinton will ever let voters see her authentic self.  That makes her a dishonest politician in my estimation.  And I'm sick of dishonest politicians.

The best reason to NOT vote for Hillary is it says you refuse anymore Business As Usual.  No more Dynasty attitudes about who gets to sit in the oval office.  No more corporatists.  No more politicians who kowtow to corporte donors.  And no more radical religious freaks who think government is the place to conduct their "spiritual warfare".  We've had enough of Dubya's religious delusions of hearing God talk to him, and don't need a Fellowship insider like Hillary deciding God is inspiring her to replace our Constitutionally sanctioned individual rights with her personal brand of fundamentalist "morality".

Anyway, sorry this turned into my personal rant.  I just wanted to stop by and encourage everyone to read the MOTHER JONES article!

I'm curious if Thom has read this yet, and after reading it,  if he'll still say he could support Hillary if she gets the nomination....
