the poll is unscientific but fun!

Raygun's 9 words

"I'm from the government and I'm here to help."

Not nearly as terrifying as "I'm from the company that got the government contract. How much help can you afford?"

the blame game

At what point do we all stop pointing fingers. Of course, the past must be exposed for what it was and must be used as a source of increasing awareness and our understanding of current events. After hearing about the YouTube video that attempts to attribute the fall of Fannie May and Freddie Mac to African-American democratic congressmen, I was dismayed to hear Thom Hartman advise democrats to do the same. Unfortunately, the over-stretched egos from both sides feel they need to castigate the other side, to use precious time and energy towards assessing blame rather than towards seeking mutually beneficial solutions. The Republicans are, no doubt, off their rockers on more than one issue and their insistence on attacking the left indicates the weakness of their ideology and immaturity of their party. My argument isn't so much routed in the common adage, "two wrongs don't make a right" as it is hoping to transcend the whole mistaken concept of party politics. The most magnetizing aspect of Obama is his capacity to speak to America, not as a group of individuals that fall into one party or another, but to America as a people that are seeking answers. The fact that he is ahead in the polls is not only a product of increased voter registration but also as a resuilt of numerous republicans switching party affiliation. This tells me that "Americans", whatever that means, are more inclined to seek answers as they are worried about assessing blame. Obama is offering answers and a willingness to listen. He is committed to relieving us of a myopic consideration of the issues, of the past and how it will play out today. I think that Thom Hartman, whom I admire and listen to religiously for the depth and breadth of his arguments and his thoughtful analysis of the issues, could learn something from Obama and all the republicans who are voting democrat this year.
