Great Speakers!

Thank you so much just for giving us the opportunity to hear these voices! I've had the privilege to hear Rev. Forbes preach on many occasions at Riverside, but I have never had the chance to hear him teach on (or talk about) other great voices who came before, or who are among us even today. How wonderful to hear him reflect with us on the truly prophetic speaking of Martin Luther King Jr. But even more – for those like me who’ve never actually heard Howard Thurman’s voice before – how great to hear that! Till now Thurman was a legend to me but only that, not nearly so close or real as you’ve brought him today. Thank you.

Recognition of Value

Each and everyone of us ain't the same black woman
Found in exactly the same place
Doing exactly the same thing
And so I must ask when we speak of black women in the academy
Who you talking about?

Dr. Forbes,

Thank you for expressing the "extraordinary diversity" of African American men and women leaders who have contributed to our nation's history and culture. I was so moved to hear the speechs from "Say It Plain" on your show. I think Jesse Jackson's speech was poignant at this particular time. I'm a teacher, and I recently discussed with my class Barack Obama's annoncement that he is running for President in 2008. Many of the kids believe he can win. Keep hope alive!

Pauses of Affirmation

I like the new music! The speech by Howard Thurmond gave me chills. Your last show on "Inner Peace" resonates with his idea that when we have peace in ourselves it "announces in everything we do," making peace in our communities possible. There is something about listening to the radio that television can't give, because you make us see with our minds and hearts and not our eyes.

The music this week is from

The music this week is from our brilliant intern Kas, she keeps the old folks on point... this week, Au revoir, Lilly Allen, and Donovan.
