Trouble Streaming?

The engineers are experimenting with a new setting that is causing problems for some programs (especially Internet Explorer and Real player). Hopefully the stream will work better in those two applications soon, but until then let me offer easy workarounds that almost always work perfectly.

Windows Media Player:

Below you will find recommendations to use Firefox or iTunes.  If you can not or will not install those programs, please try using Windows Media Player.

1. In windows media player, press "control" and "u" at the same time, or click on "file/open URL"

2. In the "open" box enter the following address, and click OK:  http://cast.voxcdn.net:8000/live

3.  If the stream starts to buffer for what seems like a long time, just click the big play button (the round arrow in the middle) and the stream should start instantly.

Firefox:

The stream works very well in Firefox. It is a free web browser that many people seem to like better than Internet Explorer. You can use both IE and Firefox on the same computer with no problem. You’ll also need to make sure the Adobe Flash plug-in is installed.

Download firefox here.

Download the flash player plug-in here.

iTunes:

Use iTunes to listen to the stream. ITunes is another free download (you don’t need an iPod or anything like that to use iTunes). You can also find the live stream listed there. If it is up and running, it will play from iTunes.

You can download iTunes here.

1. In iTunes, Click Radio in the left-hand “Library” Column.

2. In the list that appears in the main section, click “talk/spoken word.”

3. Double-click “Air America.”

Other Media Players

The Air America live stream is a simple MP3 stream. It will play in many free media players, like Winamp and Foobar 2000 (among many others). Enter these addresses into those players:

or, more directly,

http://cast.voxcdn.net:8000/live
