Frankly, the only reasons I would care if someone in the public eye had an affair is:
1) They were using public funds to pay for their secret assignations
2)They made a big deal about family values and being moral, and then cheated on their spouse, making it obvious that they speak about family values and morality as applying to others and not to themselves (the hypocrisy factor).
3) The affair interfered with their ability to do their job properly.
So did she or didn't she? It doesn't affect me one way or the other. I don't want to hear about it. It's none of my business.

By MichtouNovember 13, 2008 - 7:33pmPuritanism
America was strongly influenced by the Puritans, who were a strong part of the initial colonization of the North American continent. They brought with them their views on religion, marriage, adultery, fornication, fellatio, cunnilungus, and everything that makes life interesting. America still holds true to certain puritanical beliefs and principles, and is part of what makes America, America, and utterly ridiculous at times.
France for example does not seem to have any real problem with an adulterous chief executive. They just have different traditions on this issue, as do many other countries.
So for Americans, I am afraid that adultery will always be a big no and potentially a cause of political nonviability.
