McCain

Incompetent, senile and by far not a leader.

This week McCain Iraq - Pakistan border

There is no border between Iraq and Pakistan. John McCain take a map and few geographic lesson or subscribe national geographic. This is the experienced "Commander" for the largest military. Every Russian General would be send to Sibiria for such unqualified remarks.

McCain offended the Germans - there was not reason to hit against the germans. Obama was in Berlin a 3 Mio City and 200'000 stayed in Central Berlin for this speech - what's here wrong ?

on Hillary

David,

I adore you to the 10th power!

I wonder what that would say about the Obama 'Change' campaign to choose Hillary after her comments favoring McCain's experience over Obama's, as well as her supportive yet not supportive comments ie. the muslim thang...? Frankly, I believe it would be a mistake to choose her. A large mistake.

Plus, I am still particularly turned off at our party being held ransom by Hillary's followers- respect issues, paying off her debt, changing party rules and *magic* numbers.

I have so much I wish I could both discuss with you. Alas, so little time.

Thanks for playing that little snippet of Marriane Faithful.

On equal coverage by the MSM

radio first and last

The MSM, and the big liberal bloggers, and Air America, with few exceptions, favored Barack Obama all during the primary, and was absolutely nasty to Hillary Clinton. They still are enthralled by him; he's new, and "newsworthy", compared to the stilted, old news, McCain. They are being unequal in their coverage, in my opinion.

the (guilty)over-reaction of the media, by the media

On making sure the media coverage allotted to Obama vs. McCain is fair? When this baloney first hit the airwaves, I rolled my eyes. What a non-issue issue. Goodness!

John Edwards; privacy; hypocrisy

Larry Craig was a story *because* of his personal hypocrisy AND his party's hypocrisy.

GWB & Condi is not a parallel to John Edwards & Wotsername. It's more like Robert Gates & Susie Smith having an affair-&-love child; i.e., well-known, well-respected white male in high position (tho' Edwards isn't in a high position, yet, and now probably won't be) having affair w/ quite unknown white (i think) female.

I'm not certain, of course, but I think you wld probably just move on--*unless* you wanted to destroy Gates' reputation. That's why I didn't pick Chertoff or Mukasey as examples in a parallel situation.

First, don't report it

First, don't report it unless it's fact. Second, don't report it unless it has relevance--did he campaign for covenant marriages or try to get the death penalty for adultery or something? Third, if it's his private life, let his wife and he decide what's okay and how they'll deal with it--they may have a great marriage and he can still relate to some other woman. We don't get to decide what their personal rules are with each other.

Now can we deal with the big (real) issues?

Edward gossip

radio first and last

The National Enquirer is a bag of lying locusts. I would never believe anything they wrote or said. If this is true, then Edwards' public career is likely over. (remember Henry Cisneros problems never went away, just got worse & worse.) If it is not true, John Edwards knows how to sue them out of existence, and I hope he does. And I am NOT a fan of John Edwards.

It should not be talked about by the media without further corroboration of the evidence. Ignore it.

What about Clinton?

I can't believe that the tabloidish and prudish M$M media hasn't been all over the Edwards Affair story yet. I am one of those who wished that Larry Craig had not copped a plea for the Minnesota airport incident. So what do I know?

JOHN EDWARDS

I believe that this is a totally "Rovian" attack. Where are the pictures/proof that Edwards was in the hotel? The National Enquirer says they have video, but they are not using it. Why is that? It is just too suspicious. Edwards is a good person who scares the Republicans because he understands and talks to us - the average, hurting American.

Future?

Interesting that the M$M is not "talking about this". I am sure it would destroy his future with the Obama's Administration.

John Edwards

The AARers I associate with mostly wanted Kucinich as the first choice, then Edwards. After these two departed, most got behind Obama.

John Edwards love child?

Lets review:
-The story was broken by the Enquirer....seriously ....and it gets people's attention?

-The story was vetted and verified by no less a respectable news organization than Fox News?

These are the only sources I can find on this story. How sad for us as a nation that this noise gets print space and airtime, while the Administration continues to shred the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

Even if this sordid tale turns out to be true, what does it matter, really, in the face of what is happening to our country? We impeach a president for staining a dress, but look the other way if one wipes himself with the Bill of Rights.

You should have seen Joe Scarborough this morning on his show

You should have seen Joe Scarborough this morning on his show. He had this guy on that brought statistics about what the media says about Obama and McCain.

Obama - 72% unfavorable and 28% favorable
McCain - 47% unfavorable and 53% favorable.

Joe has such a hissy fit, he was sitting and shouting a la O'Reilly that it's a lie. Joe said the media constantly bashes McCain but not Obama.

However, if you really listen,

The media goes on and on about "The public knows McCain, but they don't know Obama".

Then there are the unrelenting attacks on Obama's family, his wife, his pastor and everyone he has ever looked at twice.

When has the press mentioned McCain's wife's drug addiction past or her being able to go to rehab instead of prison.

Then there is McCain himself. His five planes he destroyed. Ok, two he blew up on the Aircraft carrier, so they weren't technically crashed. Or that he graduated 5th from the bottom from the Navel Academy (puts him in the top 99.45%) out of 899 Cadets. Or that he voted against increasing GI benefits to equal WWII benefits in 2004,5,6,7,and this year. Never a mention about McCain lobbying the Air Force to send 40,000 hi tech jobs to France on behalf of EADS.
The press barely hit on McCain's constant gaffes at Town Halls.

McCain has been protected by the press. Look at this latest one with McCain blaming Obama for high gas prices and not visiting wounded troops.

The press said nary a word when McCain walked around an Iraqi Market surrounded by 150 US soldiers and 5 Black-Hawks overhead, using them as human shields for a screwy photo op. Not a word. And then McCain said, "See, it's perfectly safe". I talked to the father of one of those soldiers and he was pissed.

Obama is going to need every cent he has to defeat McCain.

McCain versus Obama

After this week I am so depressed about the impact of the media giving John McCain virtually a pass with his scurrilous ads and lies and misleading innuendos. I feel more concerned than what I usually hear from Rachel Maddow and need a good dose of David Bender's pollyanna/glass half full view of the world. Please - I hear so many people who are long-standing Democrats who now are "afraid of Obama and feel that he is risky". How do we change this and take back our country before we have to leave it to a bunch of corporate oligarchs leaving the rest of us in the dust.

McCain blames Americans First

McCain in his speech on Friday 7/25 sounded like he was laying the responsibility for the Iraq debacle at the feet of the American people. Something like "presidents don't lose wars, nations lose wars".

I just about puked.

This is outrageous and he should be called out by every journalist over this. It smacks of the "Stab-in-the-back legend" the Nazis used after World War One to explain away German WW I defeat, and is probably what McCain secretly believes (wrongly) about Vietnam.

(Another commenter rightly pointed out yet another similarity on an earlier thread, that "... After Hitler started losing WWII, and before he shot himself in the bunker, he stated that the German people were too weak to accomplish the goals he had set for it,...")

Someone must call him out on this non-sense.

Please David, Rachel, et al., don't let this slide under the rug. This is big enough to still bring up today, Monday, on "Race for the White House".

Media Bias

Today on a bunch of sites:

------

The Center for Media and Public Affairs at George Mason University, where researchers have tracked network news content for two decades, found that ABC, NBC and CBS were tougher on Obama than on Republican John McCain during the first six weeks of the general-election campaign.

During the evening news, the majority of statements from reporters and anchors on all three networks are neutral, the center found. And when network news people ventured opinions in recent weeks, 28% of the statements were positive for Obama and 72% negative.

Network reporting also tilted against McCain, but far less dramatically, with 43% of the statements positive and 57% negative, according to the Washington-based media center.

-------

NOTE: The Center for Media and Public Affairs is generally considered a darling of the Right. Just thought I would point that out.

I heard this last night on "Verdict with Dan Abrams" ...

He had some Repug on who, of course, disputed the stats and insisted that the media is still "liberal" ... I had to laugh out loud when Dan basically said that this guy, and the right, had something against FACTS.

So much for that 'liberal' media the right is always whining about.

And, when you ask a troll who runs the alleged 'liberal' media, they can't answer, of course.

"I'm completely in favor of the separation of Church and State. My idea is that these two institutions screw us up enough on their own, so both of them together is certain death."

Media Coverage of Obama

I just listened to your show today via podcast and thought you might find my new article at OpEdNews.com interesting. It's titled "Desperate NeoCon Turns to Porn" and can be found at http://www.opednews.com/articles/2/Desperate-NeoCon-Turns-to--by-Barbara...
