This Weekend on Politically Direct with David Bender 10-05-08

By Scott Millican

Hi it's David Bender....well she didn't say "I can see Russia from my house," but Sarah Palin's debate performance this week was almost a comedy routine...replete with smiles, winks and the occasional verbal pratfall.  This Sunday on Politically Direct, we'll be talking about the Grating Debater with Newsweek's Jonathan Alter as well as with America's greatest man of letters, the incomparable Gore Vidal.  All this and your calls, this Sunday on Politically Direct, right here on Air America Radio and Airamerica.com.

You can purchase Jonathan Alter's new book, Between the Lines: A View Inside American Politics, People, and Culture here.

21st Century marks end of LUXURY PRESS COVERAGE, really Alter?

.
Alter thinks that "US AMERICANS and such as" during the '90's had the luxury of good times so the press was able to focus on irrelevant matters like Monica and OJ.

How much BS is that? The fact that the impoverished and incarcerated weren't able to penetrate the media filter constructed by AIPAC & CFR via CIA Operation Mockingbird that effectively squashed IRAN-CONTRA and Clinton's collaboration in the crack cocaine epidemic via the AK Mena airstrip, does NOT correspond worth Alter's myopic analysis.

Bender's naval gazing concurrence with Alter's perspective, in light of Gore Vidal's celestial view point makes one ask, what are you on drugs now, were you then, or does cognitive dissonance only apply to the other guy?

Today regarding the matter of accountability for taking IMPEACHMENT OFF THE TABLE, the failure to enforce the filibuster rule, but for once of 90 times while Dems controlled what came up for votes in both the house and the senate for two years, while the REAL-ESTATE BUBBLE combined with the CREDIT DEFAULT SWAP debacle was in plain sight, as Greenspan destroyed the FRB credibility with 1% overnight rate for an inordinately long time, on top of the obvious imminent Gramm-Leach-Bliley shit to hit the fan, buttressed by numerous DEBT CEILING ELEVATIONS to pay for the exploding DoD privatization scam, in conjunction with the off the charts EXXON PROFIT backed with continuing MULTI BILLION DOLLAR tax subsidies, while they weren't even paying royalties as the Department of the Interior was snorting meth off bare naked BIG OIL hookers, the press is taking stock in NOT covering OJ's life sentence, WHAT!?!

KUDOS TO SCHMUCKS from Howard Kurtz to Brian Williams to Dan Rather for ignoring the fact that DoD and FAA officers committed perjury during the Kean-Hamilton 9/11 "investigation" whose budget was 1/3rd that of the Starr smut report. If they properly investigated just that one issue, the house of cards would have crumbled along with the Scooter Libby RoVak PlameGate TREASON ordered by Vader with the shrub's full knowledge, as was also the case in FISA being violated prior to 9/11 that is well beyond the standard of HIGH CRIMES and MISDEMEANORS, before even addressing the DSM FIXED INTELLIGENCE regarding CURVEBALL as Scott Ritter had blown to smithereens while the SMOKING GUN MUSHROOM CLOUD was being laughed at by the French who also were fully aware that there was NO IMMINENT THREAT, PERIOD!!!

Elizabeth de la Vega makes clear in her new book United States v. George W. Bush et al., ... in her career as a prosecutor, prepared numerous fraud indictments and, as she argued in the first excerpt from her book posted at Tomdispatch earlier this week, "A Fraud Worse than Enron," what George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, and their senior officials committed was a crime, not just in the colloquial sense of the word, but in the legal sense too (and not a victimless crime either). While their crime was of a magnitude that puts even Enron, no less run-of-the-mill fraud cases, to shame, it also has all the elements of a typical, small-time scam. ...

Kucinich's Article of Impeachment: A Three-Part Guide - Now with Part II - June 15, 2008
~ By Elizabeth de la Vega (federal prosecutor for twenty-one years, she was an assistant U.S. attorney in Minneapolis, as well as a member of the Organized Crime Strike Force and Branch Chief in San Jose)

It is entirely possible to be a reasonably well-informed citizen of the United States and NOT know that on June 9, 2008, Representative Dennis Kucinich (D. Ohio) took to the floor of the House of Representatives and spent over four hours reading thirty-five Articles of Impeachment against President George W. Bush.

Even worse, it is not merely possible, but likely, that the vast majority of people who have been more than willing to ignore or ridicule those charges have not read them. Or, if they have read them, they have found the allegations and citations so overwhelming they just switch off their minds. Perhaps surprisingly, I understand this phenomenon quite well. I spent many years attempting to present complex and disturbing information to people in the context of criminal indictments and cases. And the truth is that legal documents are confusing to everyone, including lawyers. Much as I hate to admit it, for example, I have never been able to plow through our family will, so for all I know, our very meager estate has been designated by my husband to be held in trust for the care and feeding of ferrets.

But the House Judiciary Committee does not, of course, have the luxury of being so cavalier. ...

Carry on with the flatulence as long as you like, then WAKE UP as Kucinich and McKinney, besides Robert Fisk and Greg Palast have been screaming from the rooftops for fargen ever.

Don't you people realize that Fair.org has been publishing EXTRA and podcasting Counterspin along with DemocracyNow.org that refutes the story about how fortunate the "US AMERICANS" were during the '90's while VULTURE CAPITALISM and NEO-LIBERAL economic hitmen were making Global Warming the next big thing that nobody really cares about, and national heath insurance is kept off the table, while Wal-Mart coerces its employees to vote against their own interest?

Both people up there Thursday night were clear that they don’t have the majority of the American people’s interests at heart, including the majority of American people that have called, into the last week, telling the Democrats and the Republicans no bailout.

You know, I think we need to talk about the fact that six years ago, groups like Central Brooklyn Partnership or NEDAP or financial literacy groups in this country were right in front of this, talking about predatory lending, the idea that these lenders could come in, confuse people with mass amounts of paperwork and literally put them into debt for life.

But while we’re talking about the financial crisis, and particularly the subprime mortgage mess, I’m also thinking about affordable housing and how, in the same time period, there has been a major rent destabilization loss all through this country, rampant gentrification, and many people who don’t own houses, who don’t have mortgages, are literally being evicted every day from their homes, because they can no longer afford the rent.

So, in a recent essay called “Seize the Time” that Cynthia McKinney put out, she says we have to now seize the time. If they’re going to pay this $700 billion or maybe potentially $800 billion bailout with the tax people’s money, with our money, then we have every right to step into that space and create the policies that come from the people, that the government adheres to.

And one of the things that is not being talked about also is ending the war right now, not ending the war in sixteen months, not in twelve months. We’re spending $10 billion a month in Iraq. We need to stop the war immediately. And for me and for young people, that also includes the over-reliance of the war here at home, the drug war, and the continuing prison-building. We need to get a grip, and we need to—we need to force and hold these people accountable to put in programs that will keep people not only in their homes, will keep people in their rental apartments and will stop the war. I think everything is interconnected

On Monday, the people rose up and Congress backed down, sending the bailout to defeat. But then the lobbyists rushed in with a brinks truck of bribes, and this afternoon Secretary of the Treasury Henry Paulson got $700 billion dollars to save the system that his crowd on Wall Street had exploited to enrich themselves while plunging the country to the edge of catastrophe.

The bailout offers almost no help for homeowners, or equity for taxpayers in banks that are being thrown a lifeline...it turns our Secretary of the Treasury into Caesar Augustus and plunders democracy with tax breaks for Hollywood studios, Samoan sweat shops, Alaskan fishermen, rum merchants, makers of toy arrows and giveaways to big oil. All this on the very day the government reports that another 160,000 people lost their jobs last month — that's the most in five and a half years.

No wonder that Congress today resembled Monty Python's ministry of silly walks — one palm open to the lobbyists, the other holding their nose against the stinking odor of a bill everyone said they didn't want — while rushing for the airport to go home and tell the voters how important it is for them to be re-elected — so they can come back and clean up the mess they just made. ... www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/10032008/watch2.html

The numbers are staggering, but they don't begin to explain the greed and incompetence [CRIMINAL NEGLECT as strong as they go on CBS], that created this mess.

It began with a terrible bet that was magnified by reckless borrowing, complex securities, and a vast, unregulated shadow market worth nearly $60 trillion that hid the risks until it was too late to do anything about them.

And as correspondent Steve Kroft reports, it's far from being over. ...

With its clients clamoring for safe investments with above average return, the big Wall Street investment houses bought up millions of the least dependable mortgages, chopped them up into tiny bits and pieces, and repackaged them as exotic investment securities that hardly anyone could understand.

60 Minutes looked at one of the selling documents of such a security with Frank Partnoy, a former derivatives broker and corporate securities attorney, who now teaches law at the University of San Diego.

"It's hundreds and hundreds of pages of very small print, a lot of detail here," Partnoy explains.

Asked if he thinks anyone ever reads all this fine-print, Partnoy says, "I doubt many people read it."

These complex financial instruments were actually designed by mathematicians and physicists, who used algorithms and computer models to reconstitute the unreliable loans in a way that was supposed to eliminate most of the risk.

"Obviously they turned out to be wrong," Partnoy says.

Asked why, he says, "Because you can't model human behavior with math."

"How much of this catastrophe had to do with the instruments that Wall Street created and chose to buy…and sell?" Kroft asks Jim Grant.

"The instruments themselves are at the heart of this mess," Grant says. "They are complex, in effect, mortgage science projects devised by these Nobel-tracked physicists who came to work on Wall Street for the very purpose of creating complex instruments with all manner of detailed protocols, and who gets paid when and how much. And the complexity of the structures is at the very center of the crisis of credit today."

"People don't know what they're made up of, how they're gonna behave," Kroft remarks.

"Right," Grant replies.

But it didn't stop ratings agencies, like Standard & Poor's and Moody's, from certifying the dodgy securities investment grade, and it didn't stop Wall Street from making billions of dollars selling them to banks, pension funds, and other institutional investors all over the world. But that was just the beginning of the crisis.

What most people outside of Wall Street and Washington don't know is that a lot of people who bought these risky mortgage securities also went out and bought even more arcane investments that Wall Street was peddling called "credit default swaps." And they have turned out to be a much bigger problem. ...

Of the 529 congress critters the following are the only Dems that could not swallow the $112B in PORK that pushed the fat cat sham debt socialization bill without mark to market valuation or mortgage terms revaluation to adjust for bloated assessments that pumped up salesmen's commissions, besides the plethora of subprime deals to clients who qualified for the prime rate without exploding interest clause that were pushed by the grifters at CountryWide et. al. to poe suckas across the board.

BTW:
McCainiac was complaining about the health care he got while in the Hanoi Hilton. You did bring up the tax disclosure Friday night dump that the press was forbidden from photocopying. Why are the 527's not attack that?

Also the consensus among "reporters" not just the pundits, of the major papers including USA Today and Washington Post, is that Palin tied with Biden on Thursday. Name the g0p shills by name, why don't you? CNN all day Sunday has been running the chyron that the gloves are off about BHO's hobnobbing with TERRORISTS in ChiTown. WHAT A COUNTRY!!!
