Don't Let McCain Off the Hook re Palin
I think we would be terribly wrong to give John McCain a sort of pass by saying his selection of Sarah Palin as VP is "just political".
I think it's every sign of how John McCain will govern: he is more than willing to put into power the sort of fundamentalist hard right evangelical ideologues whom Bush Jr. has been putting into office during HIS tenure.
Secondly, I think Democrats may really shoot themselves in the foot if they fail to realize how individually likeable and politically populist Palin is. Palin is mainly there to reach out to fundamentalists and anti-abortionists (who are giddy with her selection), but she's also there as bait to trap liberals into making fun of Alaska or small towns or her very popular and likeable family.
Be very, very careful with this one, Democrats: This is how John McCain will govern, and you take this threat likely at your peril.
