Clinton and Biden: topline thoughts
I’ll admit it, I sold President Clinton a little short today.
When asked about my thoughts (biases, really) going in to the Wednesday night speech, I wrote this:
The Dem Party of Bill Clinton circa 1992,3,4,5,6 is not the Dem Party of BHO 2008. The Big Dawg may not love that, may even be bitter (imo) that he is not being given more credit (earned or not) for what he “accomplished” in the 90s, but both Clintons know that what is best for them is what’s best for the Democratic Party this cycle–and that is the election of Obama-Biden this November.
Bill might not give the best speech of his career, but he will embrace BHO in word and spirit–at least for public consumption.
But Bill Clinton exceeded my expectations by a goodly amount. First, Clinton wholly embraced the Obama candidacy, with lots of full-throated “I support Barack Obama,” “Barack Obama is the man for this job,” and “Barack Obama is ready to be the president of the United States.”
Clinton neglected—wisely—to say that Obama would be ready on “day one.”
My favorite lines from the Big Dawg’s speech (transcribed from scratch-pad notes):
Barack Obama knows the world will be more impressed with the power of our example than the examples of our power.
and
America can do better, and Barack Obama will do better.
Joe Biden met my expectations, but maybe just barely.
I have often thought of Biden as an informed speaker, but not so much a great orator (I don’t think I am alone here). Tonight’s speech basically confirmed that belief. It had the “red meat” that every anchor and pundit told us that this speech must contain, but it didn’t soar rhetorically. It was a little long, and peppered with those much too over-used call and repetition lines, which have mostly failed (as they did here) ever since Al Gore trotted out “It’s time for him to go” back in 1992.
Joe Biden’s best moment—and, again, I am sure I am not alone here—was his “Freudian slip,” accidentally calling John McCain “George.”
Biden—along with so many at this convention—stressed that John McCain just represents a continuation of the failed Bush Administration. Polls show that this argument tracks very well with voters. In this case, I am happy that the Dems are poll-driven.

Bill Clinton & The King
The Democratic Party is not Obama's yet. He has yet to be tested to prove himself. The argument that he is inexperienced is completely foolish. Experience comes with opportunity to serve. Not one president ever had experience at running the country until they were elected & had opportunity. We must elect Obama & give him that chance. We can not afford 4 more years of a republican.
Last night, President Clinton took to the stage to a thunderous round of a standing ovation. It was magic. It was like Elvis walking on stage to the cheers of his loyal court. Bill Clinton is " The King" of The Democratic Party. It's his party to rule & only he can release it to the new generation.
Before President Clinton took the stage, you heard a partial list of his accomplishments. He resided over the greatest period of peace & prosperity in U S history. He inherited 7.5% unemployment in 1993 & ended up watching unemployment drop to 4.2 % by the time he left office. Over 22 million new jobs, record number of new home owners, a DOW that soared from 3,300 in 1993 to 10,700 when he left office January 2001.
Bill Clinton is without a doubt the most successful president of our era & it sucks for republicans they have an imbecile like G. W Bush. I would bet Rupert Murdoch & the simpletons at Fox Noise absolutely had diarrhea as Clinton took the stage, scored a touchdown with a great speech then spiked the ball. It was great !
Now it is up to us. President Clinton & Hillary told you what we must do. We must make sure we encourage our neighbors, friends, relatives & even strangers to register to vote, get proper ID cards & vote to give Obama the opportunity to move this country into a new direction from the miserable failures of GW Bush & the corrupt GOP led congress that put us in massive debt the first 6 years of The Bush presidency.
We must get out of Iraq completely & quit wasting 12 billion dollars a month there, while Americans at home struggle to get by. We must take care of our own at home first as President Clinton said. We must make sure every soldier sent off to the war in Iraq on the lies of The Bush administration aretaken care of when they return home.
As president, Obama should have The Justice Dept investigate Bush43 & his staff for crimes & he must prosecute them for crimes along with the telecom companies that broke the law. We must prosecute war criminals like "Blackwater, Bush43, Cheney, Rumsfeld & others. In order for Obama to defend The Constitution & uphold the laws of the land, he must make good to prosecute those that broke the law, otherwise he know better than Bush43. We must restore the rule of law in order to regain our respect in the world.
President Obama must call for an investigation to what happened to almost 9 billion dollars Bush, Bremer, Cheney & Wolfowitz claimed was lost in Iraq. The democrats promised us in 2006 that they would do this & hold Bush accountable. Pelosi & Reid either need to get with the program or step aside & let someone else run the Congress. Dennis Kucinich was the only member of Congress that did his job under The U S Constitution to attempt to impeach Bush & Cheney for crimes.
Here's our chance. Let's not blow it. Let's get registered to vote, get the proper credentials & ID cards & challenge others to vote Obama as our next president. We can not afford to let this opportunity slip by or allow John McCain to further ruin this nation with the insane policies of G W Bush, the worst president in U S history & the most corrupt one too.
