Your first guest Sandy
Your first guest Sandy Bourne extols the virtues of the free market and argues that through our consumer choices the best interests of society will be met in the way of lower prices or better products to choose from if government stay out of the affairs of so called free enterprise. The premise that she is operating under is a false one and is unfortunatly ever pervasive in the discourse that we engage in with conservatives so often. That is the idea that we reallly have a choice at all. If consumers have so much power to change abuses in the market then why is gasoline so extraordinarily expensive? Surely we would have remedied this by now if we really had any say in determining these monolithic coprorate entities. The freedom that she and others speak of is a false choice. We are for all practical purposes one large captive market for the unrestrained corporate raiders to plunder with the aid and aquiesence of the government. We need to frame this debate in terms of economic freedom, having the means through a living wage to be able to make informed choices. Having the information we need to make those choices through a media that has public service as its priority rather that profit. And finally having a government that is free of corporate influence though election campaign funding and lobbying and is ultimately behest to we the people.
