As away of marking World AIDS Day, President Bush was presented with the first international Medal of Peace by Saddelback Pastor Rick Warren. According to Pastor Rick Warren "no U.S. president or political leader has done more for global health than this administration, which has raised the bar on America’s role and responsibility for providing critical humanitarian assistance around the world. Over the past eight years, the President and Mrs. Bush have traveled the globe as they and their staffs have worked tirelessly to bring awareness and solutions to pandemics such as HIV/AIDS, and we are privileged to honor their efforts on World AIDS Day.”

In case you didn't know, Brad Pitt really digs architecture.

Through work in New Orleans with his Make It Right Foundation, Pitt is trying to make a difference by bringing together architects, residents and community leaders to create guidelines for rebuilding. Their goal is to make new homes that are affordable while incorporating green technology, sustainable design and being adaptable to survive the unpredictable weather of New Orleans.

For all his efforts he'll be gracing the cover of the January '09 Architectural Digest. It's a nice departure from seeing him appear on all the gossip trash that cashes in on his face so I'll bet he's got to be really proud of this.

With 150 homes ready to be completed, Pitt and his foundation hope to bring back the Lower 9th Ward and use that model for other areas around the world. “We’ve cracked something here…these houses redefine affordable housing…this is a proving ground for a bigger idea that could work globally,” he told the magazine. “This project is not mine anymore. It’s so beyond me.”

I understand why a group of Islamic fanatics would systematically plan and execute the slaughter of scores of totally innocent, unarmed, civilian people. Seen that before, right here in New York City.  I get it.  I mean, that's why we call them terrorists.  That is what they do.  That is why they are international outlaws, subject to arrest (if they're lucky), or death by gunfire (if they're not).  I am horrified, but not mystified.

I am utterly baffled as to why 2000 potential shoppers, early on Friday morning, were so eager to buy discounted electronics at Wal-Mart for Christmas that they surged forward through the opening doors and trampled to death the young worker who opened them.
