Hey-
Thought I'd just change the page for people who want to hang out until the under construction sign goes up.
Thanks again for all the love.
Marc Maron
No, thank you!
Thank you Marc for all the great entertainment and insight you have provided. I have felt a kinship with you because, much like you, I have only been "active" with political/world issues for the past few years. When you don't understand something, chances are I don't either and I learn from your great questions.
I look at the "Teachers Union" case that happened recently. When you didn't quite understand it, or believe it, you continued to investigate. I was just as confused and sceptical as you were. Unlike some other talk show hosts, you wanted to know more, hence letting me know more.
I hope you will be able to shop the show around to another venue that I can listen to you on. I really think you shine on the radio doing a half entertainment, half political talk show. You took the "boring" out of AAR.
Now I hear that Jeanene is leaving (she was pretty much part-time recently anyway) and Sam Seder is iffy on his future with AAR. I guess they really want to self destruct. I heard Jeanene say that you were going to be on one of her farewell shows next week. It will be good to hear you on the radio again.
Keep us informed on what it next. Jim also!
Rock on.

once you pick out a radio receiver, it's only 12 bucks a month. I love my XM.

~$150 hardware, plus installing antennas on(not in)your house and car. A Sirius antenna would not work inside my house or car. And it sounded like crap.

By jorogoJuly 15, 2006 - 7:01pmYou can get an XM radio now for 50
Used ones on Ebay and elsewhere don't cost much. You don't need the excess XM equipment. I have a basic XM radio and I plug in some inexpensive computer speakers. Sounds wonderful for my purposes. If I need it to sound better I can plug it into my main stereo receiver and big speakers.
12 a month is a third of the cost of cable tv.
- Email this page
By ProgressiveSpiritJuly 15, 2006 - 9:42pmThanks for that info!
Your point is well-taken about the cost of cable--but in my case, without it, I wouldn't get C-SPAN, the weather channel, and without an external antenna, I wouldn't even be able to get the local channels, so, I'm stuck for now. Sucks, I know.
I want Marc on the free airwaves though; one should not be deprived of information just because one is poor. (You can tell I've never been a Republican!)

I alreadt have XM but would also add Sirius if needed.
The thing I don't like is uncensored. I think the people in charge can be mocked relentlessly without resorting to Carlin's seven words. Creative mocking nver gets stale, while Opie&Anthony-like shenanigans show a huge lack of imagination.

By webhubbletelescopeJuly 15, 2006 - 5:48pmI will probably get XM if AAR doesn't have a NY affiliate
I would absolutely get XM if that's where a Marc Maron radio show was. I would also pay for podcasts.

By brilliantatbreakfastJuly 15, 2006 - 5:58pmI almost bought Sirius last year for AAR.
Actually, I brought it home and found the sound quality to be so incredibly bad (far worse than most webstreams), I called and cancelled it. I got to talk to an honest guy at Sirius who admitted to me that the talk shows were allocated less bandwidth than the music, which also sounded bad. Turned out to be a fortunate call, as AAR left Sirius shortly after.
So, having dodged a 300 dollar investment(1st yr)down the crapper, I would want to be certain Marc had a solid contract with XM which, after his AAR experiences, I'm sure he would.
The web/podcast might, however, be a better idea. Don't more people have computers than XM radio? No antennas, no new hardware to buy, no competing for a time slot, and total control for Marc.
A terrestrial radio network still provides the best exposure, but the greatest investment.
Whatever it is, I'm a fan and I'll be there. If I have to, I'll invest to get a Maron show.

By Painting GirlJuly 16, 2006 - 12:03amRadio
I sort of feel that the world of talk radio is saturated. And most shows aren't much different from the rest of them.
What I want to see is Maron doing what he does on TV. Something with a Dick Cavett feel: with interesting, though not necessarily famous people.
Talk shows in the 70s were so much more interesting than the ones today. Even Dinah Shore could kick the ass of any talk show host these days.
Television is a tough gig to get, and sustaining an audience is even harder if you aren't commercial enough. So I think Marc needs to videocast, even if it's just a half-hour show a week. Look at Ricky Gervais's pod and video casts. He created a new format: tease the potentially mentally challenged person. It made the Guiness Book for most downloaded podcast.
Perhaps Marc could have a Playboy After Dark set-up where everyone is hanging out in his garage. He mixes with the crowd and does several short interviews.
All right now. It's too hot to think of anything else.

I do watch TV, but not as much as I listen to radio.

My other brother will be there soon, I'm in F*&%ing IRAQ!!! and now THIS!!!! It just figures. I lose my internet connection for a week and a half, just when I first noticed that I wasn't being allowed to download the podcasts I PAID FOR! So not only do I, once again, lose the two objects of my silly hetero man-crushes, but don't even get to hear their last two weeks on-air.
I would've understood the suits not wanting to keep you guys if Mort had put on skis and jumped over Marc 'the Shark' cruising menacingly around a swimming pool, only his flat-top breaking the surface, but you guys were trotting along with consistent high-quality material. You inspire an incredibly devoted fan-base (obviously), including a guy who makes the effort to call-in from F*&%ing IRAQ FOR F*&K'S SAKE!!! With an actual promotion campaign they could've made you guys a very real threat to 'goose-stepper radio' nationwide. I guess AAR is in phase 2 of what may accurately be described as "Operation Punch Self in Nads, Repeat".
Marc, you and Jim and everybody else involved in the brilliance that was Morning Sedition and the prematurely silenced Marc Maron Show are far too talented, and just plain cool, for the myopic jerk-offs running AAR. Whatever endeavors you all find yourselves involved in in the future, I wish you the success and recognition you all so richly deserve.
I will find whatever you guys end up doing next, together or separately, and will continue to support in any way I can. (I do bodywork on helicopters and can ready an anti-tank missile for firing in less than 20 seconds if you need me.) Take it easy, Buddies.

Look at this week. Look at Friday's blog.
Somewhere you have the last posts for Morning Sedition.

Sure, the show is gone. But this. This is something you cannot create on the air...you cannot even imagine in a boardroom. This is fan loyalty.

Jim, I LOVED the environmental news on Friday. Has Randi heard this? Delicious!!
And Marc the Sharc had me rolling on the floor with laughter. You don't believe that stuff, do you Marc? In the reality-based world, you have delivered two memorable
and wonderful shows to Air America, MS and TMMS. The Sharc is just spinning it.
If I were Marc and I had some unexpected downtime and was still getting paid
by AAR, I'd take some time for personal development. I'd build a house in NOLA,
hang out with the fasters and Cindy Sheehan in Lafayette Park, do a Jerry Brown
and spend some time in a Mother Theresa mission house (okay, put your
own spin on this idea), take a cross-country car trip with Mishna, convert a car
to biodiesel, ask Jim to help you put solar panels on your roof.
I keep thinking something will announce itself to you. Be patient. Don't forget that
there are lots of us who "get it."

I've been listening to Marc and Jim since Sedition. I'm in London so it's always been a web stream and or podcast. I subscribed on the first day of TMMS and I can't believe the powers that be have taken another terrific show away from the people. I sometimes listen to Franken and the others but it's nowhere near as good as the comedy and fact this show has seamlessly integrated. You guys gave me the best way to keep up on current events with the most accurate factual analysis, but without the jokes (good and bad) it just hurts. I want to know the truth, I want to see what's going on, Marc and Jim delivered all this in the best way, and I was hooked, every day, without fail. You gave me inspiration, You reminded me that americans were mostly ok people (My wife ad some otheres). You even gave me the confidence to do a open-mic night (It went ok, working on more).
All because of a cult following radio show and some amazing talents and their characters.
I gotta go and hack AAR to download the last podcast (Which I've already paid for). See you guys on myspace?

By RppPolypJuly 16, 2006 - 12:37pmWas just thinking this a.m.
Was just thinking this a.m. that comedy/humour is so crucial for a balanced existence. So many truths are best pointed out in jokes.Who was it who said laughter is recognition? The jester/fool/joker is as necessary today - if not more - than it was historically. I know I need a lotta humour to keep me sane these days = J
Too bad there's no 'court jester' for Bush & co. - maybe he or she could keep these devils in check(a little bit, maybe?).But isn't it apropos that these guys in power today seem so humorless? The only humour that comes out of Bush, et al. is immature bully humour & he's about the only 1 in the WH who ever even laughs.
That was what struck me about AAR when it 1st debuted; aha!humour! - & incredibly top-notch comedy @ that. The Death-Cultists will NEVER be able to touch that.Hate & fear are just not funny
That's why I find it quite disheartening to see this show go away - hardly anybody in radio is doing a whole 'package' as well as this crew = (
Sam Seder does some spectacular bits, but they're too scarce, IMO, & there is a 'stable', seemingly, of great folks @ AAR headquarters, but they're mostly anonymous, Kent Jones is a GENIUS, but he's underutilised - tho I LOVE him on Rachel's show & can't bear the thought of her show w/o him, I'm so gonna miss Lawton & Angus, etc.
All these hilarious people should be showcased - given MORE airtime - not used as 'seasoning' for making the grim & the shrill a bit more palatable.
Just my 2 cents....

By Beat around the BushJuly 18, 2006 - 7:35amThe Black-hole of Marc
Greetings Marc and fellow Sheeple,
I just finished listening to the "lost" hour of the July 10th show, and now I'm just more damn depressed then I'd like to admit. I won't go into my whole history of being a fan of Marc's (Short Attention Span Theater and such) - but I will say that when I got hip to Sedition- I never missed a day's podcast. Since the Marc Maron show started, its been one of the few things that has gotten me through this menial office "job" that I'm forced to do to pay the bills. Every morning I'd get up 15 minutes early so I could download last night's show and I'd start my day with my aspertame free diet-Coke and Marc and Jim. Now its much too quiet here. I'm ashamed to say that although i'd read the blog every day- it took hearing about Marc again being screwed to motivate me to finally write. So to you Marc- your funny, along with Jim and all the great cast of characters you've had, has kept me and so many others going- and the show will be missed on a daily (or more often) basis. We're all looking forward to the Comedy Central Presents, and hope against hope that you'll find away to yet again be a daily part of our lives.
Thanks from the bottom of my heart,
James in the barren wasteland of Iowa

By analogkidd1July 18, 2006 - 9:24amMiss You Marc and Jim...
So, here we are. No show. This bites. I was so used to hearing from you guys. I know... No need to rehash it any more. I just wanted to be encouraging. Marc and Jim, you dudes are wickedly talented geniuses. Stay alive no matter what occurs I will find your podcast.
By the way something, I'm not going to pressure AAR for a refund for the two months I got cheated out of when they cancelled the show. They can consider it a donation in the name of Marc Maron and Jim Earl. Believe me, those guys need it. Start making better decisions AAR.
Goodbye for now, sweet radio show. Farewell.

By station agentJuly 18, 2006 - 11:46am"Alliance donors negotiating a major investment in Air America"
According to an article yesterday in the San Jose Mercury-News, by way of the Washington Post...
"An alliance of nearly 100 of the nation's wealthiest donors is roiling Democratic political circles, directing more than $50 million in the past nine months to liberal think tanks and advocacy groups in what organizers say is the first installment of a long term campaign to compete more aggressively against conservatives.
"Democracy Alliance... includes the Center for American Progress as well as Media Matters for America... Several alliance donors are negotiating a major investment in Air America, a liberal talk show radio network..."
Maybe if this goes through they can afford to pay Marc what he asked for!
