Today's Show, Friday, April 27th, 2007
The Rachel Maddow Show is live in Minneapolis! Thanks to all the folks at Air America Minnesota AM950.
We've got a great show lined up with some truly amazing guests:
On the show today, we'll talk with Bill Stephenson, St. Paul's Animal Control Supervisor to talk pigeon poop and the RNC Convention.
Also on the show we'll talk with Iraq veteran Andrew Borene, for our weekly ASK A VET segment.
And, we'll be joined by former Air America host Al Franken, currently running for US Senate.
Stories on the show today:
ACTIVE DUTY
It's a really big deal that an active duty lieutenant colonel named Paul Yingling has just published an article in the Armed Forces Journal, which criticizes the senior generals in teh US military for not stopping the Bush Administration's brilliant plan to invade and occupy Iraq.
WHITE HOUSE SPOKESMAN AND FLAUTIST
Take a look at this amazing video of White House Spokesman Tony Snow playing the blues flute.
DOJ's BIG NEW IDEA
The Justice Department has come up with a new idea. They unveiled it yesterday. Here it is: If you're on the terrorist watch list, you can't legally buy guns. Which means that today, if you are on the terrorist watch list, you CAN buy guns.
HUCKABEE BUST
Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee is a little upset with his son tonight. David Huckabee got caught trying to take a loaded Glock onto an airplane.
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN...MIKE GRAVEL
Did you see the Democratic Debate last night? Did you see former Alaska Senator Mike Gravel? He screamed everything. It was awesome.
GOOD BEEF
The president is hosting the Japanese Prime Minister at Camp David. What's the president going to feed him for lunch? American beef that's banned in Japan.
TENET'S SLAM DUNK
Turns out that the guy who ran the CIA, George Tenet, has a lot of really interesting things to say about Dick Cheney and the Bush Administration and the way they lied us into the war with Iraq.

By klarndarApril 27, 2007 - 6:38pmSo Gravel's crazy.
So what? Don't mean he couldn't be a good Pres. The late, great Tom McCall was nuttier than a fruitcake, and yet he was far and away the best Oregon governor in living memory...and that includes that clown that was on yesterday.
Mike Gravel: the BETTER nut!

I don't know how you personally feel about it, but support for the so-called "fair tax" is one of the main planks in his platform. He strikes me as another fake "populist". Screw him!

By Guy FawkesApril 27, 2007 - 11:50pmAbout Sheryl Crow...
...I appplaud anyone who can stick it to Rove, verbally or otherwise. But, Ms. Crow can say such profound things and then then around and say the silliest things, which cancels out any other intelligent thoughts she may have. For example, the global senstive, ecology sensitive Crow suggested that we, all of us, when we use the bathroom, we conserve, you kinow, we use only the tinest piece of toilet paper to, errr, take care of ourselves when we do our bathroom business.
And, that wonderful sage, Rosie O'Donnell, soon to be leaving "The View" said the next day, "Sheryl Crow is an idiot. Has she seen my ass...?" And, Barbara Waters looked like she was going to faint...
(Well, that just might have helped expedite O'Donnell's exit from that cursed show...hee-hee)

I was at the show and took some pictures. I was up in the gallery most of the time, but I'll see if I can, in post processing, get the photos large enough to see.
It was a total blast, and not just because I got to "Ask Dr. Maddow". I got to shake Kent Jones' hand! So did the kids, who were hanging on me.
It was great to see them in action doing the show. If you guys EVER get the opportunity to see them, do it. Rachel and Kent were so much fun, and so nice to all the adoring fans afterwards. They even autographed my pigeon poop question, plus did another autograph for my oldest daughter.
I also have to say the people at our local station were very good to us, too. Sometimes you wonder about bringing your kids to things -- what will the adults think. I wasn't worried about the content of the show nor my kids' behavior (they are good girls), just what others might think. The station people answered my questions, gave us a warm welcome when we arrrived, and several of them told me how good my kids were. I just got all kinds of warm fuzzies last night. I'm still smiling, thinking about how much fun it was for our whole family.

By thewallsApril 28, 2007 - 9:06pmYou're so lucky!
My local affiliate doesn't air Rachel live - in fact it doesn't air until midnight! - so it's almost a given that the show won't come around here.
I'm going to hope that, if they take it on the road again, it'll at least be in a driving distance town!
And thank you for taking photos so the rest of us can share a visual of the experience! I want to see the shirt Rachel wore! *g*

Your question was great, thewalls, and your daughters are beautiful (I was the other Ask Dr Maddow question-asker... Do you suppose that we were the "questions of the week" and that we'll get autographed glossy photos of Kent and something from Rachel's desk??? lol ) I love that your girls have a favorite part of the show! I have to agree with all that you said... It was a fantastic show and I was on cloud nine all night.
I have a bunch of pictures from the show and the reception afterwards. Is there a place to post them?
I'm embarrassed to admit it, but I know almost nothing about politics yet. It's just recently that I have realized that it is high time for me to wake up and educate myself. I've been listening for several months now, but still generally feel pretty lost and naive (although I know enough to know that I am not a conservative!!) There is so much information out there that sometimes it gets overwhelming (if anyone has any suggestions, I am completely open to it!) I really appreciate how easy Kent and Rachel make it to understand. You guys are the best!!

Maybe TRMS can do a live and open-to-the-public broadcast from their homebase in NYC at this time next year? Then I can celebrate my birthday with Rachel, Kent, and the gang! :-)
Played hooky on Friday to celebrate the successful completion of my 35th year. Still have yet to stream the Minny show.
