How Do You Spell Desperation? A-Y-E-R-S.

Oh, my. Things have gotten pretty bad around the Palin/Mr. Potter camp. Let's play word association, shall we? Think Sarah and the old guy. Certain images and iconic moments come to mind: free-fall, Hindenburg, jumping the shark and of course, Rula Lenska. (Trust me, that was an arcane 70's reference.) Then there are cinematic and television references: "My Mother the Car," "Gigli," "Heaven's Gate" and, of course, "Freddy Got Fingered." And don't forget "Dave" and "Being There." What do these all have in common? Colossal flops, disasters and train wrecks. Flame-outs. Great potential, then it's all over. Think the Mets.
Exhibit A? The Bill Ayers connection. Quick, everybody, in unison, repeat after me in your most ominous tone: "Oooooooooo." Good, but next time more Vincent Price. McCain animal trainer Steve Schmidt and his post-Atwater/neo-Rovian associates have culled this issue from the bottom of the political barrel. That's right. Bill Ayers. Again, on my cue: "Oooooooooo." Ayers, as you must know by now, was a 60's radical who cofounded the Weather Underground. He later helped secure a grant for the Chicago Annenberg Challenge that in fact delivered $50M for school reform. (How radical!) He met and associated with Chicago Mayor Richard (fils) Daley and Barack and countless others in connection with this noble effort. The very dreaded liberal New York Times "exposé" quoted by Palin itself reports that Obama and Ayers weren't all that close. Details, details. What's the big whoop, right? Well, there is a big deal here. To wit . . .
This is classic Steve Schmidt. His Atwater/Rovian pedigree is shining through. Attack, attack, attack. Who cares about issues? Who cares about substance? Just hit 'em with a red-meat issue that's bumper sticker ready and pre-digested. The imagery is classically GOP. The New York Times. A 60's terrorist group. A black candidate with a funny name. Forget the issues. Forget that we're in the midst of an economic crisis that knows no precedent. Old Man Potter has no answers neither does Marcia Brady. If it wasn't so pathetic, it would be a hoot. Look at the polls. McCain's tanking in critical battleground states, some that have never gone Democrat since JFK. This is seismic in its importance. The issue before Joe 24-Pack (sorry, six-packs run out quicker) is the economy that has only begun to tank. And we haven't seen anything yet. And while we're talking about associates, I'll put my criminal and shady friends up against Barack's any day. You call a 60's radical a scary criminal? Just come to my local pub, the Retarded Algonquin Round Table, and I'll introduce you to some of the scariest Hell's Kitchen denizens with impeccable criminal pedigrees that some hoary ex-radical would pale against.
You wanna talk miscreants? Don't get me started. And oh, yeah. While we're still on the subject, let's talk about Methuselah's pal, Hoboken's favorite son and resident rodentophage, G. Gordon Liddy (who told me once that he consumed a rat to conquer his fear of same). Seems that G. suggested that if one found himself in a firefight with ATF agents, they would best be neutralized by head shots as their body armor might get in the way of an effective and easy kill. That's right: suggestions and recommendations on how to best dispatch federal agents. I could go on.
What about Paul Begala's accusation that McCain sat on the board of the U.S. Council for World Freedom. He reported on "Meet the Press" that "[t]he Anti-Defamation League, in 1981 when McCain was on the board, said this about this organization. It was affiliated with the World Anti-Communist League, the parent organization which ADL said had increasingly become a gathering place, a forum, a point of contact for extremists, racist and anti-Semites." I got your straight talk right here!
The fact of the matter remains that McCain and Mrs. Muir are realizing that the campaign has gotten away from them. The times they are a-changing. His initial campaign message of anti-terrorism is ringing cavernously hollow. There's a new domestic disaster in downtown Manhattan; this time our financial system has imploded. And you know it's bad when Elisabeth Hasselbeck, resident abderite and vacuous cupie on "The View," tries to explicate the relevance of Bill Ayers. They even tried to unearth Reverend Wright. Can you say shades of Willie Horton? This is what these folks are all about. Visceral, Pavlovian reflexes and reaction. Not substance, hope, change, name it, But fear, fear of the black guy with the funny name and his radical friends. Lee Atwater's smiling from above. And note also that when the right talks of Obama, they don't come out and say, "Oh, yeah, don't forget, HE'S BLACK!" No, they're a tad subtler. They'll remind you that he doesn't share our "values" (translation: pigment). He doesn't know "our America" (translation: White America). And if you thought Rudy G was deft at referencing 9/11 at the drop of a hat, you haven't met these guys. Ayers = terrorist = bombing = 9/11.
That linear meme may have been relevant and effective a year ago, but as long as local newspapers emblazon their front pages with images of NYSE floor traders channeling Edvard Munch's "The Scream" and plummeting Dow graphs, the latter day Charles Lane and his Lois Lane become more and more irrelevant and anachronistic.
This reminds me of my trial lawyer days. Let's stipulate to the fact that Bill Ayers was a despicable man who did terrible things and held beliefs that were antithetical to those of upstanding Americans. For all you common law practitioners, let's file a demurrer: let's admit that all of the facts pleaded are true, viz. that Ayers did these terrible things then, when Barack Obama was in elementary school. What is the relevance to Obama, his campaign or us today? If it were suggested that Obama had plans to appoint Ayers to a cabinet position or designs on Ayers as his Attorney General, then certainly that would reflect upon his character and judgment. But that's not the case here. If this were a court of law, a trial judge would dismiss the complaint or cause of action because there is no crime or offense charged. Barack met Ayers; Ayers was a bad guy. Case dismissed.
Now, if you want to talk about associating with bad guys, I mean really associating with bad guys, ask Old Man River about that Keating feller.

Mc Cain and Character
Hi Lionel, I love your show as with all Air America shows, I listen all day and all night. Thanks for the real news and more important, the TRUTH. I have one comment this morning. Since there is a woman in Virginia waiting to be elected on November 4th so she can bring charges of murder against President Bush and VP Cheney and Mc Cain has voted with President Bush over 90% of the time does Mc Cain really want to bring up character? He can go there if he wants. He may just find himself on that same list of people who I hope more than anything will be tried for murder. Thanks for listening. Marilyn from Florida

On the news, they said that the Reader's Digest gave their readers a choice between McCain and Obama.
Reader's Digest is read all over the world.
From the Reader's Digest readers, only one country in the entire world preferred McCain.
By 38% to 36%, it was the United States.
Not only that, it was close "only in the United States". The widest margin was Holland at 92 to 8.

So apparently you feel we should no longer govern ourselves, but let the world select our leaders for us. That should work out wonderfully as the rest of the world immediately votes in their best interests as opposed to ours. Talk about trashing a sovereign nation.

Mostly they tell me to collect Atari 2600 game systems and the Q-bert game cartridges.
Is that not what you're saying? That because the rest of the world feels Obama would be a better leader, it must be true, and only dumb Americans would believe otherwise.
The world opinion thing just really irritates me because it's just like the 15 year old kid in high school that gets ridiculously upset at looking "uncool" when the entire cool thing is smoke and mirrors anyway. Do I care if America looks uncool to the world, or is it more important that America has a leader that will continue the successes of this nation?

You libs and you, Pukie, in particular are an example of the STUPIDITY of the American voter. Who can imagine voting for a candidate whose own political carrer began in the living room of a domestic terrorist that has repeatedly admitted bombing the Pentagon, Capitol Building, New York Police Department, etc. and has recently said he didn't do enough bombing. This terrorist actually hired Obama to dispense millions of tax dollars to organizations whose only belief was to show students how to be radical and rebel against all authority including parental authority. What sane Amercan voter would vote for a man-child that attended a church that preached hatred of America, whites, and Jews and befriended this pastor that asked God not to bless America, instead to damn America. What sane American voter would vote for a candidate that took bribes from a convicted criminal and slum lord. What sane American voter would vote for a candidate for president or commander-in-chief that voted several times in Congress to NOT support the troops financially while at war and said our troops raided villages and murdered civilians. What sane American voter would support a candidate that believes in taxing the only investment capital left in this country because he says it was "fair to do this and taking this money to give to deadbeats.
Only in the liberal mind does any of this make sense on any level so, yes, liberalbluegum was correct in stating "never underestimate the stupidity of the American voter".

Would that be the $5 trillion added to the national debt in the past 8 years? No, that would be a repub president and his pet repub congress.
Would that be the 4000 American soldiers killed and over 30,000 wounded in Iraq? No, that would be a repub president who lied to get us into a never-ending war.
Well, then surely it must be the fault of liberals for the loss of over 750,000 jobs this year. No, that would also be a repub president who ran the economy into the ground while making it easy for corporations to outsource American jobs to India, China, Malaysia, the Phillipines, Mexico, Guatemala and other places too numerous to mention.
To beat Bush's record deficits and economic blunders will be a tough job for any president of any party. I'm betting our great great grandchildren will be looking back and wondering how their ancestors could have allowed such an incompetent group of criminals to ruin this country at the turn of the 21st century. Of course, that assumes there will still be an America left in that distant time.

You know nothing about the principles of this country as you post radical lies about America. You are also a convicted welfare cheat who only has views of a small extremist portion of this nation. You are nothing but a domestic terrorist and a war criminal.

By hufflarry2000October 7, 2008 - 10:05amThe only reason Ayers was
The only reason Ayers was not convicted is because the wiretapped evidence was not admitted in court that had Ayers admitting and planning his terrorist acts. Besides, Ayers himself has admitted to those terrorist bombings on numerous occasions and has stated that he didn't do enough bombing.

By bebeholmesOctober 7, 2008 - 10:29amLike I said
he was not convicted because there were no attacks and no evidence. However, you and people like you may be charged with treason and terrorist activities against America and it's citizens. We liberals will be running everything. You will pay for your crimes against my country, you filthy animal.

It's not working. Obama is UP in the polls. You are going to lose, and lose big. But then you are such a spineless, beer-livered little Jaw-jah piece of pig shit that you would support McCain if he publicly ate a live fetus.
Why do you support baby killers, Southern Man? I can't wait to hear you cry for your mama when the election results are in.

By LiberalIconoclastOctober 7, 2008 - 10:42amInteresting. If McCain is
Interesting. If McCain is in legal trouble and not found guilty, he's cleared. If it's Ayers, it's a miscarriage of justice. A logical consistency generally attributed to something like say...a spastic colon.

By CeleneOctober 7, 2008 - 11:08amYou seem to not believe Robert Bennett:
"First, I should tell your listeners I'm a registered Democrat, so I'm not on (McCain's) side of a lot of issues. But I investigated John McCain for a year and a half, at least, when I was special counsel to the Senate Ethics Committee in the Keating Five. ... And if there is one thing I am absolutely confident of, it is John McCain is an honest man. I recommended to the Senate Ethics Committee that he be cut out of the case, that there was no evidence against him."
That is a direct quote from someone has all the information, because he is the one who provided the information to congress.

By Guy FawkesOctober 7, 2008 - 1:15pmLets spot the lies in Momo's
Lets spot the lies in Momo's statement.
1. Cranston was the only one reprimanded. Riegle and DeConcini were criticized only for acting improperly. No formal action was taken.
2. Glenn and McCain were criticized by the Committee for exercising "poor judgment" when he met with the federal regulators on Keating's behalf. So we want somebody who regulators say has "poor judgement" on this type of issue to be steering the boat in these rough financial waters!??!!?
3. So you're statement that "none of which were exonerated" in reference to the other 4 is just FALSE. And while the term "exonerated" doesn't apply here, he was cited for poor judgement, as I noted previously.
Yes, LETS talk about Ayers... that's MUCH more important than the economic implosion...
The two met "at a luncheon meeting about school reform in a Chicago skyscraper." Obama was then named to the Chicago Annenberg Project board to oversee the distribution of grants in Chicago. Later in 1995, Ayers hosted "a coffee" for "Mr. Obama's first run for office."The two served together on a community anti-poverty group, the Woods Fund of Chicago, between 2000 and 2002, during which time the board met twelve times. Ayers also contributed $200 to Obama's re-election fund to the Illinois State Senate in April 2001." Since 2002, there has been little linking Obama and Ayers. Obama says he has not visited Ayers during the presidential campaign. The senator said in September 2008 that he hadn't "seen him in a year-and-a-half." In February 2008, Obama spokesman Bill Burton released a statement from the senator about the relationship between the two: "Senator Obama strongly condemns the violent actions of the Weathermen group, as he does all acts of violence. But he was an eight-year-old child when Ayers and the Weathermen were active, and any attempt to connect Obama with events of almost forty years ago is ridiculous." CNN's review of project records found nothing to suggest anything inappropriate in the volunteer projects in which the two men were involved. Internal reviews by The New York Times, The Washington Post, Time magazine, The Chicago Sun-Times, The New Yorker and The New Republic "have said that their reporting doesn't support the idea that Obama and Ayers had a close relationship."

So where's this "pattern" of "association"????? Time to find a new talking point!

By dtaylo75October 7, 2008 - 11:29amSo, by your post, I gather that you agree, the keating thing is
a non issue. My point exactly. Glad you agree.
As to AYERS. It's not about him, it's a question of examining whether this relationship is part of a pattern of Barack Obama associating himself with people and causes that are hostile to the foundational principles of this nation.
I happen to believe that is something worth looking at. Don't you?

In my previous post I proved you a liar. I notice you didn't appologize for all the factual errors in your original post.
I think the Keating 5 is VERY important because it is so similar to what is happening now. And just because McCain's participation didn't rise to the level of being illegal, it was clearly WRONG and the board said as much.
As far as examining Ayers and his relationship to Obama.... The New York Times, The Washington Post, Time magazine, The Chicago Sun-Times already did this and found no close relationship AT ALL.
Bitch-slap completed...

By dtaylo75October 7, 2008 - 1:33pmI made no factual errors.
You did. What I said is that McCain was exonerated by the person who investigated the Keating Four affair. Those four were not exonerated by the person who investigated the affair.
As to Ayers: Frankly I really could care less. Obama is a Neo-Com. Neo-Coms hang together. Duh.

When you remove the name and pronoun, it's almost as if you're talking about your VP candidate.
It's probably worth looking her pattern of associating with and having relationships with members of an extremist separatist group that professed its hatred for and renounced its allegiance to America, and wants to remove one of the stars from the American flag. Donchya think? You betcha.
I think there should be a constitutional amendment to ban ripping stars off the American flag.
Call a special session of Congress.

Go figure.
