Today on Doing Time- Wednesday, August 27th

Pantsuits of America Unite! Last night was all Clinton. She gave a rousing speech at the Dem Convention focused on McCain and what America needs moving forward. While reactions are still simmering, talk is milling about that the NY Senator may be considering another run in 4 years. Ron will give you his take on this and on what Bill Clinton needs to say tonight to move us forward.

Today on Doing Time- Tuesday, August 26th

And their off! The gavel fell yesterday with Chair Howard Dean calling the Convention to order. With that came a flurry of activity, from our airwaves to you! Michelle Obama headlined in a speech that focused on her family values and her history, while ailing Senator Ted Kennedy gave a rousing speech on party unity and passing the Dem torch to this new generation of leaders.

While details are fuzzy, it has been reported that a possible assassination plot has been thwarted by Denver police, via some meth addicts with high range rifles. There are four suspects in custody, one jumping from a hotel window to evade capture. Ron will keep you posted on this.

Ron Kuby talks w/Senator Dick Durbin

Yesterday on Doing Time with Ron Kuby, Ron caught up with Assistant Majority Leader Dick Durbin of Illinois, on the floor of the Democratic Convention. Senator Durbin, one of the few Senators to vote against the Iraq war from the start, was asked about Obama’s judgment on Iraq, to which he had some interesting insight. Ron also asked about Obama’s plans for the economy, and what we can expect from the GOP on issues of the pocket book.

Today on Doing Time, Monday, August 25th

Drum roll please…. The Democratic Vice Presidential nominee is… Senator Joe Biden!! As you all know by now, Obama announced via text message (albeit slow) that Biden will join him in the race. What will this mean for unity at the Convention? Ron will discuss and take your calls.

With the Convention beginning today in Denver, so have the protests. The first, held yesterday by a group called Recreate 68, went over without incident with a group of 1,000. If a bear protests in the woods and no one has arrived yet to see him- does he still make his point?

 THE WAR ON WAR

They agree to agree! After Secretary of State Condi Rice’s quick Mid-East visit, the USA and Iraq have made some progress on an agreement to keep American troops in Iraq after the UN mandate expires at the end of this year. The US needs the Iraqi government to bestow legitimacy on Operation Enduring Freedom otherwise it becomes an official occupation. So what did they agree to? What conditions did the US concede? And most importantly – is there a timeline for withdrawal, are the rumors true? Did Bush really set a timeline? Dahr Jamail, expert in all this Iraq will answer all those questions and more.
