To Our Air America Readers:
By GottaLaff
There have been some comments about our posts that we feel we should address. We think it will help you understand the situation more clearly.
Someone said this in Comments;
Jeez AAR, can we got a new guest blogger, pleeze?
There is a reason each thread gets only one or two posts ( if that). Spanky here is posting a new one every 5 minutes and they are becoming more irrelevant by the minute.
A good guest blogger posts about 5 threads A DAY. Spamming up the boards with lame ass threads makes you annoying, not a brilliant writer.
And these jackholes have the nerve to hit us up for money. Never seen a blogger on AAR be so short on class.
To clarify, we planned on holding our fundraiser long before we knew we'd be guest-blogging at AA. The straw that broke the fundraiser's back was one of our computer's crashed, and in order to post, a new one was needed. GottaLaff is borrowing one now to post this very message as we speak. The fundraiser posts were only meant for our Political Carnival readers, not for AA readers. We're sorry if that wasn't clear, but we have no control over what goes up at AA. In fact, some of the posts that have been under our name were not from our blog.
As far as the "spamming"... each blog has their own style. We have been thrilled that our readership has tripled in the past month or so, and much of that is due to our ability to put up "breaking news". Others have linked to us for that very reason.
We try our best to keep the stories coming, because we feel that our readers should be informed.
We also combine humor, and even some much-needed silliness, with the serious news of the day. Our readers seem to appreciate that, and we appreciate them. If that is not appealing to anyone, please, feel free to move on to another post. We understand that we can't please everyone.
With that, we thank you sincerely for allowing us to share our thoughts with Air America. The more voices out there, the better, whether we agree with each other or not.

I realize there's a great deal to talk about
...but, to some extent, I have to agree with the blogger, even if they DID fall far short of "tact". Topics go streaming through the page so quickly that people have to go back two or three pages to find a thread they'd participated in and find out what responses had been made. That's not enough time to develop any sort of dialog, and even on a weekend, some of us are busy enough that we can't devote a significant amount of time to scrolling back to find a given topic, then scrolling through that topic to find a particular thread. It's both a limitation of the CMS that AAR has selected and a limitation of the time available to the users.
I realize this may be an unfair comparison, based on subject material and user base...but IMO you'd do well to take a hint from Slashdot. Pick seven or eight topics a day at most, post them and open up the threads for discussion, then the next day, come back and post seven or eight more. And don't break the pattern unless something truly major crops up.
That's as far as I go.

By nonexistent manSeptember 7, 2008 - 2:11pmThanks for that
Again, we have no control over how AA posts. At our site, everyone is very happy with the pace.

By GottaLafffSeptember 7, 2008 - 2:25pmI'm looking for a happy medium here.
The weekday postings get spread too thin with a new thread every few minutes, especially when there are multiple threads on the same subject. As Non said 6 or 8 posts is a good number. More is OK for breaking news if it's real news or for really popular topics.
On the other hand, a few fresh posts on the weekend are more than welcome. When the Friday posts hang over, we can get 3-400 response in a thread with maybe 20 on the original subject. That's gets very difficult to keep a debate going and find response to your statements.

By gt6September 7, 2008 - 2:26pmPart of the problem though
Is the organization of AAR's web site.
Within a thread there is no problem. But the thread topics disappear too quickly. The site used to be organized differently and this wasn't a problem.
Another problem with this site is that many news items are no longer covered. This isn't the responsibility of the guest bloggers really. There used to be posts from bloggers and simple postings of news items.
When I post news items on a guest blogger thread I feel like I'm changing the topic of the blogger. But where else can I post it? in the past you could post news items under threads on threads covering similar news items.

By f u bush2September 7, 2008 - 2:27pmI really don't think the
I really don't think the guest blogs should be responsible for how they are presented. It's strictly an AAR problem, insofar as responsibility is concerned. Of course, a blog may choose to make itself AAR-friendly, but that's icing for the cake.

the Political Carnival , I have enjoyed your blog, But one open trend, would be nice, How else are we going to give some of these trolls a ass whooping that they deserve? The only thing we can do right now is click MY ACCOUNT and continue, their ass whooping, but that leaves other bloggers out , that did not post a comment. One post , open tread sunday

By getmad54September 7, 2008 - 2:43pmI appreciate that...
If you link to our blog site (you can at the bottom of each post here), you can talk and talk all you want.
We don't mind changing subjects w/in a thread at all.
Plus, you can see all the posts on the page, so it might be easier to follow.
I love AA, I'm not trying to pull readers, but if that's the problem, it's an easy one to solve.
And again, Political Carnival has no control over how we are presented here.
The format is completely different, you can't see our videos or photos, what is a blockquote and what is our own commentary, etc.
Please try and understand that. We post at our own site, and AA does what they do with them here. We see what you see.

Each day needs its own open thread.
That was happening for a while. I think it is good for the community.

That would require a community leader like Jesus. The right wingers would hate that. They want a governor like Pilot.

By f u bush2September 7, 2008 - 4:06pmLOL - I went to the original article
There was this post:
I had a feeling we might have comments from two crowds on the same post that are wildly different.
The truth is that I rarely listen to AAR. I'm limited to the amount of time I can spend listening to shows. If I listen to one a day it is Mike Malloy. If a second then probably Jeff Farias or I stream Peter B Collins. I like Tom Hartman but it is not a good time of the day to listen. He also is a little too willing to give the democrats all the time in the world to clean up their act. I'd prefer hosts that bash the democrats for being spineless. Finally if Sam Seder had a show I would make it a point to listen.
As for this board the only reason I haven't moved completely over to Malloy's board is that I enjoy the discussions with people here. I certainly do not come here because of the shows. If everyone decided to move to Malloy's board I wouldn't come back here.

I've been reading The Political Carnival for a while, even before it was The Political Carnival. Lots of smarts, combined with just the right amount of humor. Different. I start and end my day checking the site. Keep up the good work!
