OJ: Saturday's Philosophy Lesson

By Beau Friedlander

All right folks, time for this week's romp through the wonders of Greek philosophy. Heraclitus was a pre-Socratic philosopher, which means to say he was one of the thinkers who came before the progressively logical thinker who made possible lawyer folk like Lionel and Ron Kuby!

That's right, today is Crying-Philosopher day. Give it up for Heraclitus, the man who said you can't step in the same river twice. And while we all know that (right?), OJ Simpson seems to have just found out.

The Big H also said "character is fate." He said it a gazillion years ago, but it still bears true.

Simpson and his codefendant, Clarence Stewart, were both convicted on all 12 counts. As the court clerk read "guilty" 24 times shortly before 11 p.m., Simpson grimaced and then nodded slightly, quickly regaining his composure.

Barring the sort of miracle the Juice can no longer afford, he's going to spend the rest of his life in prison.

The Los Angeles Times covers the story we couldn't possibly tell and evidenced by the present exercise in avoidance.

Another pre-Socratic theory comes to mind, a paradox concocted by Zeno of Elea constructed to support yet another position held by P armenides who said "all is one." These guys were both peerish with Heraclitus (like erstwhile OJ pal Kato Kaelin and latterday accomplice Clarence Stewart). Aristotle sums it up nicely in the Physics:

If everything when it occupies an equal space is at rest, and if that which is in locomotion is always occupying such a space at any moment, the flying arrow is therefore motionless.

And so is No. 32, the Juiciest running back ever. He is going to be motionless for the rest of his unnecessarily, unrelentingly disappointing, irretrievable life. And that'll learn all yous who say we don't have stories to rival the ones from Greek mythology. Hm!

Gimme back my $tuff!

Isn't that the last thing he said to Ron Goldman?

Don't be so hard on Liberal Holocaust

He's just saying what most libs are thinking. O.J. is getting what he deserves. He can rot in prison. He is a murderer and a piece of sewage.

Didn't most blacks say they

Didn't most blacks say they thought he was innocent of murder though? I could be mistaken (it has happened on occasion before) but I thought I saw that somewhere.

Since most blacks were not

Since most blacks were not interviewed, it would be hard to say that. The ones I knew thought he was guilty....unless they were football fans. I think that his most ardent supporters were sports fans of all colors.

I seem to remember that there was a spike in spousal abuse right after he got off scott free. A lot of men were threatening to kill their wives, saying that if OJ could get away with it, they could too.

Well, at least everyone agrees with the O.J. thing.

But you cannot possibly defend Idiot Halitosis' rascist ravings.

LH (Lying Hedonist)

is afraid of a black man being in charge of him. When he becomes afraid, he lashes out like every sheet-headed jerk does.

justus alito is racist...

and he bragged about it.

The ghost of eternal fear is now his shadow

And, it is noted, that McShame ought to be careful as he sups and sleeps. Giddy with righwing ardor, Backwoods Barbie questions his decisions. The first time, certainly not the last.

Plotters no doubt whisper evil plans and count his days while the old man naps. BB's heart leaps with joy with every drooping eyelid.

As the seed is planted so grows the tree

Sweenie Todd being BB's fav musical?

There's probably a lot more truth than you know here.
The rabid wouldn't mind McShame disappearing.

Bushie!  Doin' a helluva job!
G0P Trinity:  Failure, Fraud, Deceit.

Don't you know who I am?

I don't think it's so much a black/white thing. I think it's more a matter of "privilege". OJ felt he "owned" his wife and that she got what she deserved. Ron was merely an "oops", a mistake anyone could make.

OJ wanted "his" stuff back and would do it any way he felt because it was "his" stuff. He couldn't see that if it were worth anything, it was be taken away and given to Ron's family as part of the settlement from the civil case, so he couldn't keep it anyway.

When people become very rich and famous and surround themselves with people that fawn and ooh and aah, they lose their bearings. As bad as it is for OJ, it's even worse for people that are born into these circumstances. Look at Bush as one example. Feels laws don't apply to him, he has nearly destroyed this country ruining it's military and it's financial institutions in 8 short years.

Another example is John McCain. His life is one of adultery, affairs, lies, excess, political and financial scandals and personal failure (see academics and Forrestal). McCain would complete what Bush began. Bush brought the nation to it's knees, McCain would cut off it's head.

I'm sure that even now, OJ is comfused and telling the people around him, "Don't you know who I am?"

Well said

O.J. was able to buy his acquittal the first time, and at least this time he was able to buy a proper trial. If it had been Bob Smith from North Vegas, he'd have been tried in shackles and jailhouse orange, and be heading for prison the same day.

And I must ask. Sure, O.J. is obviously a violent, controlling bastard, and justice finally caught up with him. I pity him not one bit. But what of the crimes committed by Karl Rove, Dick Cheney, Alberto Gonzalez, and others too numerous to mention? Did they not do far more damage than a couple of common thugs strong-arming a sports dealer?

---Ray Bradbury

O.J. would have gotten away with this

if his defense team was allowed to hand pick racist jurors from the local ghetto. That's why he got away with two murders. Life in prison is not enough for thugs like him.

So you agree

...that Rove et al are getting away with their high crimes and misdemeanors because they get to choose who sits in judgment on them? I'm glad to hear it. It means there's still hope for you.

Obama/Biden '08: the cure for electile dysfunction.

Yeah

it's just like leaving Dodd and Frank in charge of the same sector that they screwed up......and benefitted from.

COULD THEY BE ANY MORE WORSE????

They screwed up?

You know that McCain was head of the Commerce Committee for 8 years and Phil Graham was head of the Banking Committee? You know that right? Republicans controlled both houses and Presidency for most of the last 8 years? Right?

Just to let you know, when an economic disaster such as this with an economy such as the US economy goes into a "meltdown", it's not something that happens overnight. It takes years. There is a momentum involved.

After all these years of Republican control, how it could be blamed on a Democrat is ludicrous.
Especially since it's been the Republicans that have misled America into war, let the greatest mass murderer in American history go scott free, decimated the Justice Department, took part is the destruction of the Christian religion in Iraq, the mishandling of Katrina and on and on.

WHEN ARE THE REPUBLICANS GOING TO STAND UP AND TAKE OWERSHIP OF THE DISASTERS THEY HAVE BROUGHT TO THIS COUNTRY? WHEN????

It was Clinton and his cronies who where driving the bus:

Fact Number One: It was liberal Democrats, led by Senator Christopher Dodd and Congressman Barney Frank, who for years-- including the present year-- denied that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were taking big risks that could lead to a financial crisis.

It was Senator Dodd, Congressman Frank and other liberal Democrats who for years refused requests from the Bush administration to set up an agency to regulate Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

It was liberal Democrats, again led by Dodd and Frank, who for years pushed for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to go even further in promoting subprime mortgage loans, which are at the heart of today's financial crisis.

Alan Greenspan warned them four years ago. So did the Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers to the President. So did Bush's Secretary of the Treasury, five years ago.

FACTS????

FACTS????

PUSSY

Ahh, there you go again, pulling "facts" out of your fat ass.

Buck off, Fuckwheat.

Two words for you...

...the same two words that no RepubliCANT seems to have any sort of adequate response for.

KEATING FIVE.

Next?

McCain/Palin '08: the also-rans.

And

using Reines as Obama's ecomonic advisor. He knows money.....

That the best you've got, Sissy Boy Brian?

Go on back to your Sarah Bailin' beatoff pics. Better yet, go get your mother some more crack.

You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them.

No, actually there is more:

Then there is the question of being against the "greed" of CEOs and for "the people." Franklin Raines made $90 million while he was head of Fannie Mae and mismanaging that institution into crisis.

Who in Congress defended Franklin Raines? Liberal Democrats, including Maxine Waters and the Congressional Black Caucus, at least one of whom referred to the "lynching" of Raines, as if it was racist to hold him to the same standard as white CEOs.

Even after he was deposed as head of Fannie Mae, Franklin Raines was consulted this year by the Obama campaign for his advice on housing!

Scrolled what I'm sure were just right-wing propaganda lies...
I didn't read it, but that seems to be all that you know.

Support the Troops.
End the Occupation.

Got citations?

I'm sure a little whore's son coward like yourself, would not.

Get your ass back to work, Oreo. Mama needs some more crack.

i see nothing has really changed here...

just fewer posters doing the playground crap.

Um, excuse me...

You, who have been spamming this board incessantly all weekend, accuse ME of "playground crap?" You know nothing about the history of the spammer whom I address. He is an emotionally unbalanced coward whose only objective is to shut down the blog. Yes. Someone needs to call him out and I do. Regularly.

Hmmm...scotty's been around

Hmmm...scotty's been around here before as mtmeggido. He's been banned under that and probably a couple other usernames. He used to get into long, endless debates with hatenomor, now known as Liberal Holocaust, buzz killa, killa buzz and momofuku. It used to be kind of amusing, but it going tiring, because when hatenomor stopped responding, he'd just hold the conversation with himself. Hours of random thoughts, whichever ones popped into his head, posted on the board.

Scotty gets upset whenever anyone is threatened with being banned. He then trots out his "freedom and democracy" phrase.

maybe scotty is another one of hatey's multiple personalities?

He's sure got that same talent of boring people into a comatose state.

Or Carly Fiorina as McJukebox's economic advisor

Ready to have your job "right-shored"? Look how well it worked for HP!

McCain/Palin '08: the also-rans.

reines was obama's economic advisor?

link?

mccain advisors are still getting cash....

from fannie mae or freddie mac. i can't remember which one.

obama will be limited in what he can do...

because he will want to be re-elected.

But not as much as your guy:

The tie between Barack Obama and Franklin Raines is not all one-way. Obama has been the second-largest recipient of Fannie Mae's financial contributions, right after Senator Christopher Dodd.

By momofukuOctober 5, 2008 - 10:32pm

Scrolled...

Support the Troops.
End the Occupation.

i'm on hold with on the reel...

hopefully i will get on the air. maybe not.

correction: on the real...

the host sounds intelligent. oh, i got on the air. i said palin is palling around with traitors, alaskan separatists. he said alaska should separate from the US.

chuck d. is the host...

good show.

also, i like the seder vs maron ad...

maron is funny as hell. i don't understand why he has not been more successful.

Crimes Committed by Rove, Cheney, Gonzalez

I'm sure that President Obama will assign his AG to draw up the indictments as soon as he takes the oath of office. Unless Chimpy pardons them on the way out the door. Don't forget Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz too.

oj is under arts and culture...

i think we have a lot more important issues.

obama should focus on health care

mccain wants to move people off of employer-provided health care.

Funny you should say that...

I heard on MSNBC just last night, that this is exactly what Obama is going to do in the debate. About time. He needs to out Crash W. as the cruel Social Darwinist that he is.

You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them.
---Ray Bradbury

social darwinist?...

what are you talking about?

I call Crash McBush a Social Darwinist...

Because clearly he believes in some twisted idea of Survival of the Fittest. IOW, society should do what it can to assist those who already have money, power, and privilege, while those who are "too lazy" or "unfit" to afford things like health care, should be allowed to die out. The idea wasn't really Darwin's, it was Herbert Spencer.

You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them.
---Ray Bradbury

i agree....

mccain's health care plan is scary. i even had a nightmare about it the other night.

mccain hugs bush

and voted with him 95% of the time, according to factcheck.org.

Neither candidate

should touch healthcare. Let the market take care of it. Osama and Jotox Bin Biden are planning on government ran healthcare. I can see a 700 trillion dollar bailout on the horizon.....

Riiiight

...the same way the market "took care" of housing?

How much are YOU going to contribute to the corporate welfare the Presidunce signed yesterday?

If all else fails, immortality can always be assured by spectacular error. ~~~John Kenneth Galbraith

well, we do have a racist on the supreme court...

justice alito.

Clarence too...

A self-hating, racist black guy. And as an extra added bonus, he's also an abusive woman hater. Gosh...a very rich version of Hatey.

You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them.
---Ray Bradbury

true...

i believe clarence is a racist too. but alito bragged about it.

the thing with oj reminds me of a parable from jesus the liberal

jesus asked what would be the fate of someone who returns to a house that is possessed by demons.

i put in a call with the ring of fire...

let's see if they call me back.

everytime i try to listen live i get cutoff. i wonder if it's an apple thing.

at the time of the first verdict...

polls showed that generally blacks and whites were in complete disagreement regarding the verdict. that's because blacks don't trust the justus system.

well, karma has returned to oj...

and michael cochran. was that his name? oj's lawyer in the murder trial. no. johnny cochran. he was a great lawyer, no doubt about it. a few years ago he died from a brain tumor.

-----------------------------------

Nice, he deserves it.

bush deserves it too...

mccain hugs bush.
