The Real McCain
This video from Robert Greenwald just nails John McCain's ass to the barn door.
I should have watched this when Littlest Gator posted it this morning. This guy shouldn't be a Senator let alone President.

He probably won't be president
McCane more than likely won't be president when Hillary Clinton is the nominee.
On the other hand Obama was saying that the gop should lay off his wife (spouse) for her remarks about "for the first time in my adult life I am proud to be American."
Like the gop is going to listen to Obama?
Here is just another example of Obama's hypocrisy evidenced by his campaign going after Bill Clinton, Hillary's spouse, at every opportunity they get.
And again, it is another BS artist's (not a great orator) approach to ducking the answer to the question.
Obama-GROW UP! You got into politics, now deal with the consequences!

(psssst, FACTME, I'm going to let you in on a little secret).
Obama's statement for the GOP to lay off his wife wasn't REALLY directed at the GOP. Sure it looks that way, but the real target audience for the comment is the voting public, who dislike this type of negative campaigning.
And I hate this "well she's running for first lady too" bullshit. No, she's not. Show me where in the constitution it mentions the First Lady as an office. In fact, show me any document that codifies any sorts of official power or position of First Lady.

Michelle Obama is running for 'FIRST LADY' the spouse that is supposed to be a representative of the United States of America.
She will represent that people can only be proud to be American after either they turn 40 years old or only if their spouse trys to become a democratic nominee for the president of the USA.
Barack can act like a tough husband but that's not going to answer Michelle's gaff to the majority of Americans who've been proud to be American from birth, or naturalization.

By hufflarry2000May 19, 2008 - 1:28pmOf course they wouldn't rather lose than win
They feel they have a much better chance of beating Hillary than Obama. The only tactics they have been able to use to win have been fear, intimidation, cheating and outright lies, and they see that Hillary has used many of the same tactics during the primaries. They know how to fight fire with fire. What they haven't figured out is how to beat someone who refuses to play their transparently cynical game. Hillary couldn't beat Obama using repub tactics, so why would repubs be any more successful? In fact, they will be beated even more badly, because repubs are even reviled by their own party, as evidenced in the recent special elections.
- Email this page
By UffdaguyMay 19, 2008 - 1:38pmAre you kidding me?
Are you over 25? The Dems have used the same tactic as you describe Obama is using for decades. It has led to many election disasters. Hillary will beat them at their own game and they know it. She is meaner, tougher, and will fight them tooth and nail.
- Email this page
By hufflarry2000May 19, 2008 - 1:42pmI believe we are the same age
and you are only partly right that Obama is using the same tactics that led to many election disasters. There are two important differences between then and now.
1. Unlike Kerry, who was often extremely slow to respond to repub smears, Obama responds within minutes, and generally does a good job of nailing the repubs to the wall in his response.
2. Times are vastly different now. Never has a repub president been as reviled as Bush is now, with the highest disapproval figures in history for any president. The repub party as a whole is sinking quickly, as evidenced by polls showing 82% of the American people say we are on the wrong track. There are polls saying that more people identify themselves as dems than ever before, with a better than 20% advantage at this point for dems. Beyond polls, the 3 for 3 victories of dems in traditionally strong repub districts in special elections shows that this is real, not just polling artifacts.
Together, we can see that this is not 1980, 1988, 2000 or 2004. If someone like Gingrich tried to run on a "Contract on America" platform right now, he'd go down in flames like the Hindenburg. Fighting tooth and nail with the repubs now is not only unnecessary, it could be counterproductive. The public is sick of repub lies and smears and divisiveness, and anyone who tries to use those tactics now will see it backfire. Maybe that is why Hillary has higher negatives than any dem.

Honestly Uff
I don't see how these people think Obama is more like Kerry than Clinton. Clinton runs a wooden, scripted campaign the DLC influence clearly visible. Its like 2000 and 2004 all over again.
Obama is actually more like Bill Clinton with his spontaneity. He also reportedly writes his own speeches. I'm sure he has help but I've heard he is part of the writing process. But Obama's spontaneity and intelligence are always dismissed by Clinton supporters with a quip about lack of experience.
Well on one of these threads you will find that FACTME actually stated what this is all about. He was directing his angry comments towards Obama. He told Obama that he hadn't put in his dues yet and must think he is something special.
That is what this is all about. These people got on board the Hillary band wagon back when she ran for senate. They believe the democratic party is now the Clintons to do with as they wish. They believe the nomination process was for show only and that we should all realize it was her nomination to begin with.
Hillary clearly thought so when she blew through over $100 million early in the campaign.

By f u bush2May 19, 2008 - 2:13pmHaving watched politics in this country for decades
I have to say Obama is unlike anyone we have seen in the dem party in decades. That's not to say his ideas are unique, or even better than anyone else's. What I am saying is that he does a far better job of communicating them and getting people enthusiastic about them. Edwards may actually have been better in a lot of ways, but for reasons I can't fathom, he just never caught on with the voters.
If things hadn't gone so horribly wrong in the past 7 years, perhaps Obama wouldn't be doing anywhere near as well as he is now. However, the voters are totally fed up with politics as usual, and tired of divisiveness and wedge issues and smear tactics. Obama has not only talked the talk but walked the walk on change, and people are responding to it.

----------------------------
Indeed. One thing I'll give Obama tons of credit for is that he doesn't shy away from Progressive policies, and he even goes so far as to proudly propose them in a package that the public at large is more willing to accept. He is uniting the public more behind a Progressive agenda than any recent Dem has been able to and building a new majority coalition around it, partly because he's willing to stand by his convictions. One would think that Progressives / Lefties / Liberals / "whatever" everywhere would be welcoming this with open arms, but so many like huff just think we should wait. After all, "it's not our turn". Others have been waiting patiently in line for years on end now. Plotting. Planning. Putting every decision through the prism of a penchant for power. And we should just sit down and shut the fuck up before we ruin their precious little plans.
Sorry for them...

The difference between Obama and Clinton couldn't be better illustrated.
Clinton was making her case by saying Karl Rove said she was the better candidate. Obama was telling the crowd of 80,000 that we don't need Karl Rove politics in this country anymore.
Karl Rove wants this to continue to benefit the republicans.
I'm thinking we need to look at the Clinton's stock portfolio. Do they prefer a republican over Obama for war profiteering reasons? I mean I can't explain her insane behavior.

Fuckin' classic. Clinton tells her supporters to listen to the man who has been the bane of Democrats' existence for eight long years and trust his word on The Math despite the fact that this is a man who was so sure of The Math in 2006 that his predictions were all wrong.
Don't listen to your own convictions! Listen to Karl Rove, because he was wrong!
If Clinton thinks Rove knows so much, maybe we can look forward to her hiring him on as her Chief Political Strategist in a general election campaign. Her new Mark Penn...
