By LiberalIconoclastApril 1, 2008 - 3:04amNever mind...here's how you do it.
1. Navigate to http://airamerica.com/ondemand.
2. Choose the "Shows" tab and pick the show you want from the drop-down menu.
3. There are two icons below the picture of the show, one of which looks like a tiny iPod; click the tiny iPod.
4. A bar drops down that says, "How would you like that?" - from there you can choose RSS or iTunes to get your feed.
NOTE: If you use a product like Juice (which I do) you can right-click the RSS feed symbol, open it in a new window (or a new tab in FireFox or IE7) and copy/paste the URL of the feed into the URL location of your old subscription.
Good luck.

By SEDERApril 1, 2008 - 9:25amWhere Is Terrestrial Radio
While you got off to a real shaky start, this new website looks great. However, I don't see any mention of your radio network (i.e. what radio stations carry your programming). I travel and this list is useful. I also wanted to find out if WWRL, your NYC "flagship" station was still listed. My favorite AAR host, Thom Hartmann was thrown under the format bus today while your stream was down. Very frustrating. If you need some angry townspeople with torches and pitchforks to take over a station with a REAL signal (like WOR), count me in.

By OrangutanApril 1, 2008 - 3:37amMP3s-How do I download them?
Unbelievable. This must be an April fools day joke. The new site is terrible.
A few tips for the powers at be; your number 1 goal is to make the content easily accessable. If your content is not easily accessable, everything else that you do will fail. In the future, you should test the new site before you take down the old site (or pay the designers), and should fire this design team.
Superficially, the site looks shiny and new. In practice, this site organization and navigation is unintuitive and overly complicated. The most import service that this site can provide is easy access to content. In this regard, the site is a total failure.
I come here to download shows because my local affiliate sucks. If I cannot download the mp3 files, then the premium service is of no use to me. If I have to use RSS or iTunes to get to the content, then I certainly do not need to pay for this punishment.

By odom_cwApril 3, 2008 - 12:50amBrowser Incompatibility
This site went live without being properly tested. Cross-browser compatibility is basic for any website design. This new AAR site does not work in Firefox, the preferred browser for 36.5% of web users!!!! The following features, at least -- and I'm not going to fully product test this website --, do not work in Firefox.
1. Live streaming is totally dead.
2. Cannot post to a blog.
3. Helpdesk tickets vanish when sent.
In both IE and Firefox:
1. Help butons get 404 errors (file not found).
2. "Preview comment" on blogs go and hang on a white page.
You need to redirect to the old site until the new site is fully tested and working.

Sorry about the new post, this site is not allowing replys to posts.
New errors found:
1. Obviously, can't reply to posts, even in IE.
2. Menu bar on home page..."Our Shows" drop-down is funky and hardly usable. The transparent background makes it barely readable and the rocket launch appears on top of the drop-down! It also retracts so fast, while the cursor is over it, that there is not time to click.
3. Menu bar on "Podcasts/On Demand" page only lists a few shows, not all.
Definitely NOT ready to go live

The MP3 section of the web site is a joke. It takes 50sec to reload the page at 5am EST, what will it be like at midday. Every time you navigate to download a mp3 you have to wait to while the page reloads. This page may work great for people whom use a IPOD but not everyone has an IPOD.
Also what gives with the names of the file now when I download my daily fix of 3 to 4 shows, I have on ideal what show they are its just a number. Can you rename them and use a link from you number to the name for the itunes.
The rest of the website looks great Sam, but think about the growing number of people that use a phone or another mp3 player.

By Faith DragonApril 1, 2008 - 8:08amIt is slow and subscriptions are not intuitive
The new site broke all of the subscription links. I think I have re-subscribed to the podcasts - but all I have so far is yesterday's shows. It remains to be seen if I subscribed or merely logged in and downloaded.
Please put up a simple page for reestablishing the podcast subscriptions. The procedure posted by Spiffarino is the one I found - but, until the first new show comes down I won't know if that worked. HINT, a little post of these things called "FAQ" for podcast subscriptions would be helpful.

Save the ad blocks that this post will address (and the stream links others have addressed), I've got no gripes on the layout and format, It'll take some time to adjust to the new digs. That's to be expected.
My only gripe would be the inability to read posts (not comments, but posts) in full, as the ad blocks to the right cover half of the content. It makes for users being unable to clearly grasp the poster's message, as readers are left with trying to guess what the content is that they are unable to see.
I was excited to see the "Ask A Liberal" section which includes commentary from none other than the always-hilarious General JC. So, I clicked on through... only to be unable to enjoy the content as half of it is simply hidden by the ad blocks.
Frustrating, to say the least.

Now I can't even get that! I have a hard time believing that, with a vast community full of intellectuals, there weren't enough people involved in this project who could actually code and troubleshoot a website properly (not to mention this entire endeavor should've been beta-tested long before it was ever dropped on the customers). I'm a long-time subscriber and I love your programming--this is one of the few remaining outlets for actually important news and meaningful commentary--but this is just ridiculous. The new site is very handsome and permanent-looking and I hope in a couple days my frustration will be a fading memory but right now I'm very unhappy. I've been looking for almost an hour for my shows! I can't find f-all and it's not like I'm stupid or have never been on a website before. And boy, oh, boy, talk about s-l-o-w. Geez.
I NEED TO SAVE MP3 FILES TO MY LAPTOP! It will also be nice if it doesn't take a year and a day once this feature is restored/created. I can't believe it's not here when accessiblity to content should have been the top priority. Podcast software is worthless to me. I have to have MP3s so I can move them to my Rio Karma. Why on earth can I not find the MP3 files? Do they even exist now?
Also, I tried to update my account twice and the Air Amer. server kicked me off. I'm so unhappy about this I can't tell you. I hope you know about these bugs and iron them out soon.

By MaezeppaApril 1, 2008 - 2:03pmA big step backward
The "relaunch" is slow and cumbersome.
All I want to do is download a couple of shows to my MP3 player. That used to take a couple of minutes. In the new format I couldn't even find the darn things.
Unfortunately, it seems that their fancy new code has bugs. The podcast page loaded with a message of "Done, but with errors on page." (Line: 2, Char: 1, Error: Invalid character) I was only able to get the shows by doing a "View Code" and figuring out the links by hand.
Here are the URLs...
Rachel Maddow
http://www.airamerica.com/ondemand/podcast/6618/full
itpc://www.airamerica.com/ondemand/podcast/6618/full (for iTunes)
Randi Rhodes
http://www.airamerica.com/ondemand/podcast/6621/full
itpc://www.airamerica.com/ondemand/podcast/6621/full (for iTunes)
In general, the the number after "/pocast/" can be found by pointing at the "Show Archive" link for the show you want and look at the status bar at the bottom of the screen.
Oh, yeah! And since they changed the URLs you'll have to resubscribe to all your podcasts. Good thinking, huh?
It shouldn't be a chore to download an MP3 of your favorite shows. Very disappointing.

Hay guys, get real. This New site is quite a ways of being ready for Prime Time. It is going to take weeks to get to that point. So step back, reload the old site so that LISTENERS can hear AAR and get files of shows that have been missed.
Then when the new site has been fully tested and debugged, loaded with help files, etc. Make sure you include all the old content and files. Continue to support the file types you have always provided. Then put the "new site" up on a beta address and let those who have the time/patience try it out for a FEW WEEKS. Listen to the comments, and get everything fixed. Only then relaunch it live as your main site. AAR is a big business now, start acting like it. Please!
Otherwise, you are just contributing to the anger and frustration of your paid members (and other casual visitors to your site).

It takes forever and a day to get onto a page (if you're lucky to get on at all), buttons don't work, menus are overlapping and generally AFU, and it's frankly irritating to wade through a new layout that takes a long time to load, all in a futile effort to dig a simple MP3 format show out of the archives and I say "futile" because there doesn't seem to be archives or even an MP3 of the day's show. And there is no simple list of working downloadable radio programs - a thing that should be the first option a user encounters. I want my Lionel! I want my Rachel! I want Thom!
I sure hope AAR gives me a prorata extension of the premium membership I've had for almost three years.

By MaezeppaApril 1, 2008 - 10:32pmThe Stream
Anyone else having trouble with the streaming audio?
I've been streaming Nova M most of the day. At least SOMEBODY in the radio biz has their shit together.
But I won't be able to stream Rachel's show live.

By Jeffinator1April 1, 2008 - 5:11pmDid Karl Rove do the new re-design at airamerica.com?
The new design is:
* virtually unworkable through Firefox.
* remarkably slow, with pages appearing at dial-up speed even though we have high-speed access.
* riddled with error messages, javascripting problems, buttons that don't work.
* repeatedly counterintuitive, at least to this user.
Was this new design beta tested in the slightest? Was it alpha tested? Please, put this re-design out of its misery. Restore the old website, which was a little clunky but at least worked.

The stream does work with IE. The graphics are all messed up, but at least I can listen.
Goddamn liberals using god damned open source software like Mozilla Firefox. Get a nice proprietary code program like IE® and Debold®.

By Jeffinator1April 1, 2008 - 5:26pmIf it ain't broke...
You know the old saying: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Functionality and familiarity trump new and snazzy for the sake of new and snazzy. The new site is convoluted, missing (or well hidden) key features, and SLOOOOOWWWWW.
And the WORST transgression... WWRL (NYC affiliate) dropped LIONEL! and Thom Hartman. Not good.

By gbdesignsApril 1, 2008 - 5:51pmAnother problem to look at on this site
There are menu choices like threaded or flat list and number of posts per page to display. But no button to click to implement the change.
I can select "oldest first" for instance but I can't make the page reload into that format.

AAR states that even if the Programming Director, his wife and his dog were the only Lionel listeners left, they would still carry Lional M-F.
Dump Lionel and fill that time slot with Sam Seder again, or AAR is going to continue to loose listeners.
Another example of AAR "Fixing" something which worked well.

I liked it better when AAR had a station pretty much to themselves. (WLIB)
I can see dropping Lionell, a LOT of people don't like him, including AAR fans. But dropping Hartmann for Schultz.... that's too bad.
BRING BACK SAM!

By KenIngramApril 1, 2008 - 7:11pmSTILL NOT WORKING -- Very sad
I agree with the "Karl Rove re-design" comment. Still takes ages to load any click. Still can't get the podcasts. So sad the redesigners didn't make sure the premium subscriber base were well-served before launching. Even instructions on a script we could use in iTunes to access our podcast library would be helpful.

I agree with the "Karl Rove re-design" comment. Looks bright and chipper but doesn't get you anywhere-- spins you around in limbo... Still takes ages to load any click. Still can't get the podcasts. So sad the redesigners didn't make sure the premium subscriber base were well-served before launching. Even instructions on a script we could use in iTunes to resubscribe to our podcasts again would be helpful. And now when I click "Post comment" it will take umpteen seconds to process that simple command.

By kimari415April 1, 2008 - 7:54pmUPDATE -- Trying to Update 5:00 til 5:10 PM
Went to iTunes and tried again and was able to reenter Username and Password and begin downloads. So I wanted to jump back on the comment section and let you all know that was working again. And it took ten minutes to get back here to the second page of the launch story to be able to post my comments. Oh well...

By kimari415April 1, 2008 - 8:12pmTwo or three audio streams mashed together!
When I try to get streaming audio, I get two or three audio streams. Seems like there is a 15 sec delay betwen the first and second. Over the weekend, it happened, but there was a play/stop icon. If I hit stop, it eliminated the second stream. So I got to listen to some of it, when it wasn't cutting out.
Now, with a second and maybe a third stream cutting in, if is impossible. Oh, I have IE, and Explorer XP, so it isn't a Firefox problem.
I got the subscription so I could listen to Rachel when I got home from work, and now I can't. I don't have an ipod, and am not sure how to just open a show and listen. A ten or fifteen minute clip isn't what I wanted.
Please, please, please get the site fixed up!
