I saw it on the internet
"U.S. Found Not Trustworthy: British officials are convinced of the same thing that the U.S. public has learned the hard way, that the occupants of the White House are not to be trusted. Their word is not good, and the British government can no longer act on it. The American government is not directed toward the good of its allies, any more than it is the good of the citizens it was elected to serve." That is, they won't accept our government's assurances that it's not torturing people.
At World O' Crap, an encounter with a whacky, pants-wetting article by a right-wing nut inspires "If You Have Nothing To Fear But Fear Itself, Then Make Fear-ade: However, the prospect of Armageddon doesn't seem to bother Kyle-Anne nearly as much as Obama's insinuations that fear is a bad thing, because as Nietzsche said, "Whatever scares the crap out of you without actually posing a threat only makes you a stronger Republican." And this is one woman who's not about to give up her night-terrors and allow herself to be ground down into a bloody pulp by the Politics of Optimism."
Why The New York Times rejected J. Sidney McCain's op-ed submission.
Dday offers a good breakdown of the meandering story of Maliki's support for Obama's withdrawal plan and how the White House has tried to re-spin it. (Also: Victory for Janet Jackson's nipple. And Digby learned who the most loathed cable gasbags are among their peers.)
This linky post from Mick Arran includes the news that, "The NY Times, after 25 years of turning a blind eye, finally explains how the banks got blood from a stone."
Julia expands on her review of the media's love for John McShame.
This whole "purity ball" thing is even creepier when you remember what part of the population is most likely to sexually assault their own daughters.

...How about a guy, who changes his positions more often than most people change their socks? Come to think of it, it's too bad that Obama couldn't have helped the Democrats in today's Congressional baseball game, pitting the Republicans against the Democrats. Being such a political switch hitter, Obama might've helped the Dems
avoid their eighth straight loss (1) - losses that've occurred ever since Bush has been president. Kind of mirror's the Democrat's political fortunes for the last 8 years doesn't it (in terms of either losing elections or failing to stop Bush from having his policies passed by Congress)?

Yes let's talk about McCain. Why is his new nickname Jukebox John? Because he changes his tune every few minutes, (i.e. he flip-flops).
A few of his flip-flops from the article:

Boy, did you see how those soldiers cheered Obama? What a sight, huh? And didn't McCain look like a whimpering little puppy - you could tell he didn't believe a word he (McCain) said. What a joke. You can tell they are getting desperate, even trying to cover the negative stock market, pretending it hasn't dropped like 2,000 points in a month. Do we have to wait until November to boot these bozos out?
As a Democrat and a U.S. citizen, I have EVERY RIGHT to be angry at the screw-ups of THIS administration!

Maliki agrees with obamas 16 month exit strategy plan. And the re pukes were crying foul. Even had some guy trying to say it was a mistranslation. What he didn't say was that the translator was one of malikis own translators. If this occupations goes on beyond the 16 months. We will be like Syria when they finally left Lebanon. What part of thanks , and now you can leave, don't we understand.Scott has it right supporting the troops, is not just a slogan, Getting them out of this occupation , is supporting the troops. No one has yet explained what winning is,Supporting the troops , started with me , when i had a few beers , with someone from the Nam war, Let me put it this way, i did not enjoy myself. And had a lot of restraint. Now i have go through the same thing all over again. This occupation might end, but the memories of those, that seen body's scattered out on the landscape will last a life time.

Good job shedd. Now tell us about how McCain tied up over a hundred soldiers and two gun ships for a photo-op showing walking around buying coffee. You know the trip I'm talking about. The one in which McCain was trying to say how safe it was while wearing that fashionable bullet proof jacket. The trip where soon after he left the scene, the suicide bombers struck just to make a point.

Who gives a shit if there was coverage of Obama's trip in the Iraqi media outlets? I'm guessing you just liked the use of the phrase "Drive-by" alongside "Obama" in a headline.
You should care more about the fact that the coverage of it here in the US has placed McCain even further in the background. It looks like the US media doesn't care much to cover the coming loser...
BTW: for shits and giggles, maybe you could give us all the breakdown of coverage of Bush's Iraq visit in Iraqi media outlets? say, maybe, focusing on if there was more or less coverage given to the sitting pResident of the US than there was given to the next President of the US...

By hufflarry2000July 22, 2008 - 9:32amYou are partially correct..
You are correct it is a federal welfare program for low income disabled people who do not qualifiy for Social Security disability, but they can receive SSI if their disability benefit is less than the SSI benefit. It is also for people over full-retirement age that do not receive very much in their Social Security. One cannot receive SSI if thier Social Security, disability or retirement, is more than the base SSI benefit. One cannot receive SSI if they are under full-retirement age and NOT disabled.

Supplemental Security Income (or SSI) is a monthly stipend provided to aged (legally deemed to be 65 or older), blind, or disabled persons based on need, paid by the United States Government. The program is administered by the Social Security Administration. Payments are made from the US Treasury general funds, not the Social Security trust funds. The program was created in 1974 to replace various state-administered programs which served the same purpose, as a way to standardize in the level of benefits through the addition of Title XVI (Title 16) of the Social Security Act.
This is better?
The Waffen-SS (German for "Armed SS", literally "Weapons SS") was the combat arm of the Schutzstaffel ("Protective Squadron") or SS. In contrast to the Heer, Germany's regular army, the Waffen-SS was a group of combat units composed of volunteer troops with particularly strong personal commitments to Nazi ideology and selected on a racial basis, so that people such as Jews or Poles were not allowed within the organization. As stated by Himmler, the primary goal of SS formations was to fight Jewish people and people considered subhuman by the racist Nazi ideology (e.g., Poles, Jews, Serbs, Roma people) and communists.
I'll bet she'd differ.

Rochester, New York is the former home of Frederick Douglas', North Star newspaper. In 1964, it erupted in one of the first large-scale urban outbursts of the decade. Precipitated by white police violence against the black community, the July uprising lasted several days, subsiding only after the arrival of 1500 National Guardsmen. In "the fall of 1964, the FBI, at the direction of President Johnson, began to make riot control training available to local police departments, and by mid-1967 such training assistance had been extended to more than 70,000 officials and civilians."(2)
On July 29, 1967, President Johnson issued Executive Order 11365, establishing the National Advisory Commission on Civil Disorders. It is more commonly known as the Kerner Commission, named for it chair, former Major General, and then Governor of Illinois, Otto Kerner. The creation of the commission came hot on the heels of the violence in Detroit, a conflict which left 43 dead, several hundred wounded and over 5,000 people homeless. Johnson sent troubleshooter Cyrus Vance, later Secretary of Defense, as his personal observer to Detroit. The commission issued its final report, completed in less than a year, on March 1, 1968.
Although the Kerner Commission has over the years become associated with a somewhat benign, if not benevolent character, codifying the obvious, "we live in two increasingly separate America" etc., the fact is that the commission itself was but one manifestation of a massive military/police counter-insurgency effort directed against US citizens, hatched in an era of emergent post-Vietnam "syndrome" coupled with elite fears of domestic insurrection. While the movement chanted for peace and revolution, rebellious, angry and destructive urban uprisings were occurring with alarming frequency, usually the result of the usual spark, police brutality, white on black crime ...
The DEMS, yep your HEROES, enabled this crap either because they're suffering from 20 CENTURY HISTORICAL AMNESIA, or because they like the idea of an IMPERIAL PRESIDENCY for 1000 Points of Light (Years Fatherland Reich) NEW WORLD ORDER.

Maliki is on record agreeing with Obama on troop withdrawal. Then suddenly a statement is released that Maliki was misunderstood. Then Maliki releases his plan that differs from Obamas by a couple months.
Well even if it were not documented that Maliki did in fact agree with Obama, it would be pretty easy to see what is going on. Maliki is of course walking a fine line. With a discreet order Bush could make his life a living hell or bring it to an end. Bush is the leader of the occupying force in Iraq. Until we leave, we must all remember that there is no true sovereignty in Iraq. This news was bad for the republicans and dirty tricks are nothing new for this administration.

Had a random thought on the whole"Rene Marie singing Lift Ev'ry Voice" instead of the Star Spangled Banner thing in Denver a couple of weeks ago. First of all, it's a great song - and unfortunately not one many whites know of or anything about. I think one of the great things about Obama's candidacy is that the majority culture may finally become acquainted with the minority culture and its roots, not just gangbangers, rap stars and football players. The brothers Johnson (yeah, I know it was a soul group) were two accomplished, (and in James Weldon's case a fascinating Renaissance man) songwriters and and authors who wrote this fabulous spiritual and, God help us, patriotic homage to America. I find right-wing hysteria on this small-minded and a perfect example of why the Obama candidacy could be such a bell-weather for America's need to integrate more fully with the minority culture.
How about having "Lift Ev'ry Voice" sung at the inaugural?

Or the deltas between Afghani and Punjab, or 100 and 1 other "non-white" subcultures that are here in substantial numbers and interact with each other daily and are under the radar of the "majority" culture. When I was a kid & parental units disowned me, I knew a guy who was running poverty programs in South Providence. Kenny got me into a welding training program where I was the only white guy in a class mixed with Southern blacks, northern "citified" blacks, and a couple of Port-o-gees (from the Azores - bunch of these guys in East Prov). I lived worked trained and partied with those guys for 6 months (having a pink & black '56 Ford helped) and folks like you who "interact" daily are viewed with mild amusement and contempt.
You don't "get it" and never will for reasons I couldn't begin to explain. You're an outsider, no matter how much "interaction" you have. So was I, but at least I knew it and didn't try to be some hypocritical (what was your phrase? Oh yeah) "know-it-all idiots" like yourself.
