bakashah!

The FRist! smart decision by AAR I've seen announced in some time. Welcome back, TYT. ____________________

TYT are not going to be in the radio lineup

As far as I could tell. They are going to do live streaming on AAR website only

Could be wrong because things change.

By LeeberalJuly 17, 2008 - 2:40pm

That's how I read it. The announcement doesn't say they will be on Air America. It says they will be on AirAmerica.com

wrong-o buckeroo

here in the central time zone they are on the air on XM until 9 am. I assume that means they start at 6 am.

Fantastic

But thanks to XM Radio I now have to listen to that bimbo Stephanie Miller and can no longer listen to Lionel. I really don't care about the Turks I want Lionel back and since I drive a truck cross country I am held hostage by what xm decides to play.

I've stopped listening to XM 167

except when Randi Rhodes is on. You know, the one you chased away because she told the truth about Shrillary. I notice you made the correct monetary decision and bought her back during afternoon drive from NovaM. Good choice.

I've noticed that most of the talent advertised on AAR on line is not carried on XM live anymore except Rachel. We get rebroadcasts of Thom Hartmann. Lionel's gone (forsooth!), and you've put in some fool named Miller who does nothing but bad taste jokes and sound effects. Ed Schultz is great, but I guess you pay for him too from another network. You folks have lost it. So now I listen to POTUS 08 on XM 130. At least I get some intelligent commentary there--from both sides, so I get to hear the other side's take and make up my own mind.

By blogbobJuly 16, 2008 - 9:30am

Ed Schultz is great, but I guess you pay for him too from another network.

Air American doesn't have anything to do with that. XM owns the station and they can pick and choose the line up from multiple networks, independents and if they want to, shows of their own creation.

I'm just saying you have three entities: The shows, what networks they belong to if any and the stations which may be affiliated with multiple networks but are not obligated to carry every show the network offers.

I have Sirius radio and I've noticed that the left has one channel while the right seems to have two. One of them, patriot radio I believe, isn't listed as right wing in the channel listings but it clearly is. There are more than enough programs from multiple sources for two left leaning stations. The satellite radio providers should create a second station.

I noticed

that the XM channel guide now calls 167 "America Left...Powered by Air America." Thanks for the clarification. I assumed that XM owned the channel much the way MSNBC used to own one, and CNN still does.

What's wrong with Stephanie

What's wrong with Stephanie Miller? As far as I'm concerned, she' s a nice counterbalance to Lionel's constant arrogance.

-- McCain = Four more years of the same --

I'm going to miss Bill Press

I have always enjoyed his show. Luckily, I can still hear him on our local station.

Listening to her show

is like listening to "The View" only with more trash talk, crude jokes, and sound effects. If I wanted to listen to The View I'd DVR it every day and play it back while surfing the web at night.

I agree with you about Lionel's arrogance, but at least the man can put together a coherent argument. Stephanie Miller is the Right of the Left. Let's leave her bahaviors to the Conservatards.

Alot of people told the truth about Hillary

The powers that be at AAR used the San Fran thing as an excuse to get rid of Randy ( I stole my name from Ozzy Osbourne's dead genius guitarist) Rhodes. They couldnt wait to get rid of her.

I for one am glad they did. Her Rush Limbaugh with a vagina impersonation was getting old. She definitely does not fit in the new AAR.

She is still on the air .. so good for her and the people that like being told how right she is by her every 5 minutes.

AAR benefited and Rhodes benefited too because she complained about not having the freedom she wanted.

Stephanie Miller's morning zoo format.. complete with wacky and stupid sound effects. Is not my cup of tea either.

How did AAR benefit

from losing the number 1 liberal talker? I think you prefer boring talk radio. Maybe Sally Jesse or old Larry King will bring back their shows. I do not listen to Randi anymore because of her vicious rants against Hillary.

is that what you think?

AAR didnt "lose" anyone they DUMPED her.

By LeeberalJuly 17, 2008 - 4:47pm

AAR didnt "lose" anyone they DUMPED her.

No as a matter of fact they did not. They suspended her. During that suspension Randi left Air America.

However anyone wants to phrase it

...there was a parting of the ways. Call it "creative differences."

Randi did her legwork before she went on the air, and she always talked from a researched and fact-checked position. That said, she did tend to get into ruts for a couple of weeks at a time. After her fourth straight day of opening her show talking about the CACI court case, I started getting bored with her. One does not stay on top of the rankings by rehashing old hash.

Still, I'd believe what Randi put on the air long before I'd give any credence to the drug addict or O'Lielly.

Stephanie is not a bimbo.

I think she has made it clear that she is a slut. Actually she is a sexual satirist. She's pretty hot too.

How can you not like Stephanie Miller? You simply can't find progressive fart jokes anywhere else.
Her impressionist is hilarious except when he tries to do Hillary.

Stephanie rocks. There is no progressive talk show that is funny except this one ever since Franken left AAR. Now he gets to run against Jesse Not-the-hair Ventura as well as the Ripofflican.

I hope Al wins, so CSPAN will become more interesting to watch. Instead of grouchy, anger-ridden rants or mindless talking points illustrated at the first grade level during debate, we will see biting, irony-exposing, fact-based, absent-minded humor instead.

By Antillectual July 17, 2008

To each his or her own. Stephanie Miller is a waste of time. I listen to XM's POTUS '08 in that time period now. It's good for those who are not afraid to hear what Righties are saying too.

I enjoyed his show on AAR too, but I imagine that Franken will be defeated by Ventura. He had a chance in a solo bout against Crook Coleman but Minnesota's a pretty conservatard state, and Jesse is a far more captivating speaker than Franken. Not to mention a track record as governor. C-SPAN will be just as much fun with Ventura telling senate witnesses to go get bent as it would with Franken seranading Christie Harvey.

By blogbobJuly 19, 2008 - 4:00pm

How is Franken going to get defeated by a guy that isn't even running?

George W. & George H.W. Bush - Living proof that the dumbshit doesn't fall far from the dumbass.

Kudos!!! Definitely good news...

Pleased to see ya!

Bushie!  Doin' a helluva job!
G0P Trinity:  Failure, Fraud, Endless Deceit.

I was hanging by a thread

because I missed The Young Turks, Randi, Maron, Malloy, Sedar - all of my favorites dropped one by one. Thanks for bringing at least one of them back.

Yay!!!

Hey, wait...um where does that leave Rachel? There MUST be a better time slot.....(9am eastern?)

EDIT: Oh, I see...It's "Clout" that is moving out of the way. Never mind...it screwed me up because Rachel is also on at 6pm in my area...which would make it 9pm eastern...

Are they actually going to be broadcast on the radio?

Or is their internet show just going to be part of airamerica.com?

XM 167 7a-10a ET

Can't hear Lionel any more on XM. Bummer.

More than likely

it will be a station by station thing. Those that carried Clout will probably take on the Turks. We'll see where it goes from there.

I'm glad to see Cenk back on Air America

But technically, shouldn't he just be "The Young Turk" now, since he basically does the show solo now?

good

point

In some ways, I'm glad Cenk is essentially by himself

because I think he tends to be more focussed now. When Ben and Jill were with him, things sometimes just degenerated into silliness and too many people trying to speak at the same time.

Cenk's interview with the guy yesterday about the mortgage crisis was great. I learned a lot about how the system with Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae works. Maybe the MSM could do the same.

Wait a minute, what the hell am I saying? Why would the MSM want to let people know how badly they were screwed by the corporate-backed repubs? Can't bite the hand that feeds you!

Goodbye Lionel

I found Lionel to be unlistenable. Young Turks are a big improvement.

You're an ignorant putz

Young turks were good in the morning, but many Air America listeners actually like listening to someone who makes you think. Lionel may not be your cup of tea, but for the idiots at XM to make this move, I have had it. I am cancelling XM and will just listen to Lionel's Podcasts instead. No commercials anyway.

I love a radio host that can make me think

but when Lionel is on all I can think about is "What CDs do I have with me?"

Lionel is rude and

Lionel is rude and condescending to his listeners.
I think XM can live without you. If all you got it for was Lionel, go with the Podcasts. It wasn't the best move to get XM just for one show.

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed." Dwight Eisenhower

The Young Turks

show was only picked up by about 16 affiliates nation wide. They where not insanely popular.

AAR seems to be pretty good with making podcasts available.

Wonder whats going to happen when XM and Sirius merge.

By DeronBraun July 17, 2008 - 2:36am

You're an ignorant putz

Oh well....not everybody likes to be talked down to. Lionel is an "east coast" taste, and not entirely even that. I thank the radio gods that I'm not subjected to his condescending BS. As I've said...it's all a matter of taste, being a left-coaster.

Why would anyone listen to Young Turk

when Mike Malloy is on at the same time on Nova M?

Maybe because.....

I can't get the internet while I'm trying to drive my car through rush hour traffic?

It is rush hour at 9pm to midnight

in MN? Strange place.

The Young Turks are on during the morning drive on XM

hence my comment about rush hour.

By hufflarry2000 July 16, 2008 - 1:37pm

Maybe it has something to do with a preference for thoughtful discourse over lunatic-like rants...

By SJerseyIndyJuly 16, 2008 - 5:22pm

Oh man. Malloy is the best. He's great for blowing off steam at the end of the day. Usually I only have time to listen to one host and it's Malloy.

I agree

I used to listen to Malloy in Atlanta when I lived there

I listen to him on the net when I can. Still like him.

Flying monkey right and all lol

He's great for blowing off steam at the end of the day...
------------------
...With lunatic-like rants.

It's easy to get all worked up and spit out vitriol.
It's much more difficult to remain calm and thoughtful.

Malloy's style, to me, is suited for late-night lashing out over all the bullshit that happened during the day. And that's about it...

To each his own. Malloy is my favorite radio host.

By f u bush2 July 22, 2008 - 2:01pm

Indeed.
I can't really pin down my "favorite" host. I like so many different hosts for varying reasons.
I like Hartman for the historical context, Schultz for the "mass appeal" factor, Stephanie for the humor, Maddow for "meat" on issues, Pap & RFK for the legalese simplification, Malloy for the outrage, and so on. I guess if I were backed into a corner I'd go with Hartman... sticking by "Bruch With Bernie" as the best hour of radio during the week.
There's something about a full-on hour of the only sitting Independent Senator fielding calls from us and proudly proclaiming progressive stands in his responses (and then backing it up with his work in the Senate on behalf of the American people) that gets me.
A rarity, to be sure...

At KPHX party here I got to meet both Malloy and Hartman.

You also get to meet many of the sponsors which is nice. When you do business with the sponsors it seems more personal after you have met them. Like it used to be before everything became so corporatized.

Now they think they are rock

Now they think they are rock stars and are scared of glad-handing the hoi polloi.

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed." Dwight Eisenhower

I can do both

Ever here of this new thing called podcasts? Its pretty cool... get this, I can download the podcast and listen to Mike Malloy any time I want.

In other news...

Off-topic but there is no thread for this:

Congress Grows A Pair; Overrides Chimp's Cruel Medicare Veto

It's a start, guys...next week maybe you'll even publicly oppose torture!

You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them.
---Ray Bradbury

Torture is "quaint" , didn't you know that?

It's so yesteryear. We don't torture, we do "enhanced questioning". Just like the air force never has plane crashes, just "unintended ground-aircraft interfaces".

Also off topic...

But funny as hell!

http://hcsfjm.com/

Supposedly this guy is a dedicated Hillary supporter who now believes it's our duty to elect McBush. I looked at his code, and the guy STARTED his hit counter at over 6 million! Meaning, he's had around 300 hits total.

ReepubliKKKans is so stupid!

Not to mention all the words

Not to mention all the words are images; the worst thing you can do for search engine optimization. But you did help the sites rankings by linking to it here...
So how did you find this site?
These "Hillary supporters" really scare the hell out of me. They really are nuts. How can someone who supported Hillary possibly think McCain should be president????? I stop by noquarterusa(dot)net every once in a while to see these delusional people. It's really quite amazing.

I know the "Hillary supporters" claim that one reason they can't vote for Obama is due to his supporters (they say they are all young and naive and that they call Hillary and her supports names). It would seem that it's really childish to decide who to vote for based on some of the candidates followers. Seems a better thing to concentrate on would be their policies.

Young and naive

Especially when that label, like most, is appropriate for only a small cross section of the Obama support. Yes he does better among the young and the formerly less active black, but the ONLY demographics that he did not lead in against Hillary were Hispanics, white women over 50 and the undereducated.

LIONEL...

I WANT HIM BACK ON XM NOW!

Big deal. Young Turks can't carry Lionel's jock strap

The Young Turks are entertaining in some manner, but they don't make you think. I thought us "progressives" were suppossed to be the thinking ones. Leave the sheep to Blow-Hard Slimball and the rest of the right wing nuts.

as for Stephanie Miller. Great, Fran Drescher talking polotics. Oh Joy!

Air America, you need to get an affiliate in Tampa Bay. How can the 19th largest radio market not warrant progressive radio.

And why would Lionel need a jock strap in the first place?

Maybe he needs a cup to protect him from all the annoyed listeners who want to kick him in the balls after listening to his arrogant rants in that annoying voice.

Maybe that's why he needs

someone to carry it. There is nothing there to make it fit right.

I definitely will not miss Lionel. Maybe he can find a

job someplace where arrogance and ignorance are respected.....like Faux Noise. Seems to work well for Terry McCauliffe.

Unfortunately

he is still firmly ensconced at AAR, both online and through many of the affiliates. Including my nearest one. My hope is that his contract is up in the fall and they won't renew. Perhaps that is what Sammy is hanging around for.

I learned long ago just to turn him off

He might be less annoying without that whiny voice, but that still wouldn't solve his arrogance problem. He's like a whiny Bill-O......wait, that's redundant....Bill-O is ALWAYS whiny.

His ratings are pretty low

So they will probably get rid of him eventually.

I used to listen to him ages ago in Tampa FL when he was the only liberal thing on the radio there. Now I cant stand listening to him.

His Ratings

How do you know what Lionel's ratings are? Many of the affiliates that carry his show air it in the evening.
I hope that he stays on AAR as it is my favorite show.

Its easy to find out what his ratings are

Im guessing you could google it

Great Move AAR

Welcome back TYT! I guess it's time for me to start frequenting Air America again.

I dont particularly like

TYT and definately wouldnt pay to watch them

I find re hashing things from huffington post a little boring

By LeeberalJuly 18, 2008 - 12:26am

I never listened to TYT on the radio. But recently I've caught some videos on youtube and found them entertaining.

Wow, the revolving door

Wow, the revolving door doesn't usually spin in that direction! Who are they gonna can?

Oh, now that fuckwad cenk can tell us all how only white kids have ever been involved in a school shooting again, that racist piece of shit.

Wow, that was so stupid, you had to post it TWICE.

When is the first time

that a high school shooter was anything but white? Stating facts does not make someone a racist.

I realize that facts aren't really important to neocon lemmings, but to most of the world they are.

School Shootings

Rash of Shootings Is Seen in Chicago

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Published: April 21, 2008

"Since September, more than 20 Chicago Public Schools students have been killed by gunfire. Last school year, more than 30 students were killed, 24 of them shot — compared with 10 to 15 fatal shootings in the years before."

I guess we could assume that all the shooters are white.

You aren't really so stupid

You aren't really so stupid that you believe that only white kids have ever shot someone at a school as Cenk said, are you?

"Stating facts does not make someone a racist."

If I said that 70% of black babies are born out of wedlock, your pals would be screaming "racist" from the rooftops. Shit, Oblahma was talking about that without even mentioning race and Jackson wanted to cut off his nuts for it, and he's half black.

Cenk was referring to

Columbine type shootings, which up to that time had been a white phenomenon. The right always mischaracterizes a statement first then ridicules the mischaracterization. SOP.

You know I've been meaning to ask but I keep forgetting

When i flip through the channels I come across a show listed in the guide called The Young Turks. I think it is on a business channel like CNBC.

Is that a completely different Young Turks? Or are they affiliated.

yup thats a totally different young turks

yup

Lobby for 2 lib stations on XM

I do not like Lionel and am fine with the changes on XM. I went on his blog on Monday to suggest to Lionel lovers they lobby XM for two liberal talk stations. Although I may have been a bit trolly on Monday, I wanted to keep getting the word out. XM NEEDS TWO LIBERAL TALK STATIONS.. THE CONSERVATIVES HAVE AT LEAST TWO.
I do find it amusing now to watch the Lionel Lovers lamenting. When AAR screwed over Sam Seder and totally ignored the requests of his fans, we were told to get over it.

lol, they'll have to get

lol, they'll have to get some listeners for their first before they get a second! AirheadAmerica is one of the lowest rated stations on XM, they won't be given another mercy station anytime soon.

I'm going to contact Sirius about 2 stations also. They have right and Left stations and this thing called "patriot radio" which is really another station for the right side of the spectrum.

If they do get a second station I would like to see Peter B. Collins get picked up.

banned ditto head

is boring

NO ONE LIKES THE YOUNG TURKS?

I was really happy when you pulled this nonsense off the air. I'm really disappointed that it's back. This show is hosted by some pretend progressive that is really a misogynistic racist republican. If you listed to the show you would knoe that.

Bill press was great. Sedar was great, every other show you've had in this time slot was great. I cannot listen to this in garbage in the morning, or podcast this nonsense.

I seriously will not renew my $80 a year pod cast subscription if you take all my programs. I will spend it over at nova m and listen to Randi and Mike M again.

No Janeane, no Franken, no Cedar, no Randi, no Bill. I'm really disappointed with you AA.

So - hopefully Sam Seder will be #1 for Racheal

spot - when she moves to the big time!

I was wondering what happened to Lionel...

All week I have been listening to TYT on my morning commute on XM, wondering where Lionel was. Did XM or AAR announce this change? If so, I didn't catch it. I did not like Lionel at first, but after listening for a while, I caught on. The man did make people think, and was interested in the political game, not the popularity contest. So far, I am not impressed with TYT. And I caught part of the Stephanie Miller Show today (hosted by subs) and it was terrible. I think the idea of more left stations on XM is an excellent one. I'm beginning to rethink my decision to subscribe to XM; I am disappointed with the station selections.

XM and Sirius are going to merge

Wonder how that will affect the show line up

I guess it's all a matter of taste.

I don't have much time for radio on the weekends (by choice), but I really like Stephanie Miller because I'm a silly and sarcastic person. I LIKE that she's silly and pointing the finger at those stupic republiCONs. I don't listen to radio unless I'm in my car, so I catch what I do on AM 620 KPOJ in Portland, Or. We have Stephanie Miller on the week-end, and I enjoy it. I tried Lionel, but dont like it...but I have to go to the 'internets' to get him, so no biggie. If we DO have him here, I just don't drive during those hours, I guess.

It's all a matter of what we do or don't like. I also like Cenk, but probably won't hear much of him, due to the hours.

By roadgoddessJuly 19, 2008 - 10:33am

I listen to Stephanie occasionally. She is pretty funny.

The host fits the audience

Cenk is a hack, often repea
