Michelle Obama Nailed It

By The Seminal

What an amazing speech by Michelle Obama. She managed to convey her personal story, which includes some potentially maudlin highlights, in a direct and inspiring way, without getting the least bit treacly. She, and her brother and mother presented a thoroughly American portrait that puts to shame those in the media who have suggested she was something “other”. She reminded us why people have been so excited about Barack Obama. It was masterful. Keith Olbermann is right to get a little sycophantic, as he put it. Media pieces like this and the “joking” New Yorker cover did a disservice to the person we saw tonight. I think this puts to rest any residual claim that she For once I agree with Harold Ford–this speech made me proud to be part of this country.

I’m looking forward to the rest of this convention.

Honestly...it goes between pathetically amusing and down-right boring with you reich-wing nuts. You guys have NOTHING! You should really quit your pitiful death-rales now before you embarrass yourselves further.

FOX

.
So I switched it over to Fox right after the speech to watch their reaction. I thought Juan Williams was going to fall apart. He was going on about how proud he was and being an African American. Lip quivering, eyes so moist they were about to overflow. It was truly touching. And coming from someone I have no respect for. I guess he is human.

The woman who sat on the panel was unintentionally funny. She called the speech a laundry list of liberal ideals. She said something like, "Leaving a Law Firm to go help poor people?" while smirking and rolling her eyes. Makes you wonder what kind of people they have over at Fox? She was so obviously Republican. The party of the rich and the stupid.

Not only that, but it makes one wonder why people like Hillary Clinton's spokesman Howard Wolfson and Bill Clinton's special counsel Lanny Davis (who was also Bush's only "Democrat" appointed to the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board) decided to take job offers over at Faux. That is, until one considers that they're obviously Republicans in Dem costumes...

Republican in Dem clothing

You mean like you and the rest of the unemployed trolls on this board? How much do you get for each anti Hillary post? It isnt enough as your efforts to split the Dem party have been extremely successful.

By hufflarry2000August 26, 2008 - 10:02am

You mean like you and the rest of the unemployed trolls on this board? How much do you get for each anti Hillary post? It isnt enough as your efforts to split the Dem party have been extremely successful.

I think what Huff is trying to say is that he liked Michele's speech too.

Huff - if you could get away

Huff - if you could get away from talking about specific "candidates" you may or may not like, and focus on ISSUES, you'd see that Obama and Hillary are in the same place, idiologically. Why can't the discussion stay there, where we have common ground?

-- McCain = Four more years of the same --

Tell that to the paid trolls in here

who continuously bash Hillary in their successful attempt to split the party. I realize that Hillary and Obama have little difference on the issues.

not seeing it

Huff - I'm a daily reader and poster on this blog, and I'm just not seeing these "continuous" Hillary bashings you refer to. There are the occasional LEGITIMATE criticisms of some of her actions, but those are quite rare these days as she's no longer in the race.

What is more common is criticism of her SUPPORTERS. They are the ones who are splitting the party. The fact is, Obama is (presumptively) the Nominee. So why does a recent poll show that about 20% of Hillary supporters will vote for McCain?

If that's not splitting the party, I don't know what the hell is!!!

Please, Huff, don't confuse criticising the Hillary supporters who are willing to throw the Dem party under the bus because their candidate didn't win with criticising Hillary.

-- McCain = Four more years of the same --

Well if you are not seeing it

you are blind or a paid troll like they are. The sole purpose of the trolls is to continue bashing Hillary and keep the party divided. It is happening everywhere not just here.

Huff is what Jack Cafferty calls a "Beverly Hillary Billy"

Commentary: Beverly "Hillary-billies" come to Denver
By Jack Cafferty
CNN

...

She lost. He won. She and her family will be everywhere.

...

The Clintons will also use the convention to raise money to retire her campaign debts. They even came up with a cute little contest. Hillary Clinton awarded one lucky donor a trip to the convention with her.

And as an enticement to cough up some bucks, Bill Clinton sent an e-mail to potential contributors promising a memorable week with his wife. (Insert your own joke here)

...

It's not like they have been bending over backwards to help Obama get elected. Bill Clinton has barely been polite. He couldn't even bring himself to say he thought Obama is qualified to be president.

...

Yet, Obama's people have gone out of their way to accommodate the Clintons this week in the hopes of achieving party unity. Obama told reporters on Monday that former President Clinton could speak about anything he likes.

Some of Hillary Clinton's supporters had threatened to disrupt the proceedings if their candidate wasn't shown the proper amount of respect. They're called PUMAs, an acronym for "Party Unity My Ass." They appear to be a humorless lot who cannot come to terms with the fact that the country didn't want Hillary Clinton to be president. So they have been throwing a hissy fit ever since the primaries ended.

For these people there will never be unity unless Hillary Clinton is president. For the rest of the Democratic Party, logic suggests that when it comes to a decision between Barack Obama and John McCain, they would be more inclined to stick needles in their eyes than vote to perpetuate the abysmal situation we find ourselves in courtesy of George W. Bush and his merry band of country-wreckers.

...

"For these people there will never be unity unless Hillary Clinton is president." - Sounds like Huff to me.

Huff - you can offer your

Huff - you can offer your OPINION on any topic you want except one... the topic of ME.

You don't know me, so you have no ability to offer an informed opinion of me.

I am a lifeling Democrat who supported Bill, Gore, Kerry and now Obama. Though Obama wasn't my first choice (Kucinich was), once he was out of the race I looked at those remaining and decided that Obama was by far the best of the remaining options.

You should do the same, if you are a REAL Democrat. What really divides the party is those who refuse to support the candidate chosen by the party. Arguing over votes versus caucuses is meaningless, the Delegate system has spoken - Obama is the nominee.

So please don't EVER call me a "paid troll" again. Stick to speaking of things you actually know something about - whatever that might be.

Just because somebody on here offers passionate support for Obama does NOT constitute "Hillary bashing" and certainly doesn't make them a paid troll. No idea WHERE you get that notion from!!

-- McCain = Four more years of the same --

And again

if you cant recognize the Hillary bashing from the paid trolls SJ and FU, you are blind. They are paid to disrupt this board from the real issues and to keep the party divided to elect their candidate McCain.

By hufflarry2000August 26, 2008 - 1:01pm

When can we have unity? When Hillary is the nominee?

By hufflarry2000August 26, 2008 - 1:01pm

if you cant recognize the Hillary bashing from the paid trolls SJ and FU, you are blind. They are paid to disrupt this board from the real issues and to keep the party divided to elect their candidate McCain.

Bullshit Huff

YOU keep coming in here and posting replies to people about how we "libtards" elected McCain.

Don't give us this crap about how we are the ones trying to split the party. You're fucking insane.

You want to prove you're right? Don't make any stupid posts about Obama losing because of libtards, etc for a few days. If you see us bashing Hillary at that point then you've got a case.

You will continue bashing

Hillary and her supporters as that is your job. It is your job to disrupt and split the Dem party. You have proven without a doubt that your only concern is electing McCain.

By hufflarry2000August 26, 2008 - 1:28pm

You will continue bashing
Hillary and her supporters as that is your job.

Prove it. Stop your nonsense posts and see what happens.

You are a paid troll

whose purpose is to elect McCain, nothing more. I will continue to support the Dem party against your attacks on Hillary and her supporters. Obama will need us if he has any hope of winning. I will not let your right wing crap go unanswered on this board.

By hufflarry2000August 26, 2008 - 1:52pm

Keep proving me right. You're the one keeping this going.

I beg to differ, Huff

I've been making an effort to remain impartial and open-minded about your claims Huff. I've been avoiding name-calling and saying anything derogatory. But now you are just being silly.

I've been reading "f u bush2" posts for several months, and he has always been a strong advocate for democratic ideals (both with a "d" and "D"). To claim that he is a paid troll who wants McCain elected is just plain nonsense.

I've also been reviewing your posts, and you seem to have this habit of bringing up the "Hillary got more votes" issues in a completely spontaneous, non-sequiter kind of way. The primaries are over. If a Democrat is not behind Obama at this point, then that person is spliting the party. I don't see anything that Obama is doing that is splitting the party.

I have three questions for you:

1. Show me something in this thread that is bashing Hillary (herself, not her supporters who refuse to get behind Obama).
2. Show me a post by a "troll" who is "trying to get McCain Elected" by bashing Hillary.
3. Explain to me how a Hillary supporter who promises to vote for McCain (as about 20% of her supporters do) are not splitting the party.

-- McCain = Four more years of the same --

And yet AGAIN

If you cant see the bashing of Hillary and her supporters, you are blind. I now consider you blind. FU and SJ are paid operatives in the GOP. They have freely admitted that they are not Democrats and would NEVER have voted for Hillary had she been the nominee. They clearly backed Obama because he is the weaker candidate.

They are spreading the idea of a split party and bashing Hillary supporters just like their friends in the right wing corporate media are doing now in their coverage of the convention. It is no coincidence that FU and SJ are doing this during the convention coverage, all GOP operatives are.

By hufflarry2000August 26, 2008 - 2:17pm

Prove me wrong. Prove to me that if you don't bring it up that we will sit around this board bashing Hillary. You can't. YOU are the one that wants to keep this going.

I guarantee you over the next week you will bring it up multiple times.

I will continue to answer your attacks

on Hillary and the Democratic party. You trolls cannot be allowed to spew your right wing crap on a liberal blog. We Dems want party unity and you and SJ wont stop us.

By hufflarry2000August 26, 2008 - 2:34pm

Go ahead. answer the "attacks". But stop responding off topic with posts about libtards supporting Mccain, etc. I know you can't but give it a shot. Personally I think you like dividing the party. But prove me wrong. Stop your nonsense and point out the unprovoked attacks on Hillary.

Huff - forget FU and SJ for

Huff - forget FU and SJ for now. Deal with me.

I am a Democrat. I would have voted for Hillary had she won the nomination. I would have voted for just about whomever the Dems put forth to go against McCain. Why? Because I am a Democrat.

Now, in my previous email I raised 3 points. If you can address those then perhaps we can get to the bottom of this.

And again, condemning the Hillary supporters (~20%) who say they will vote for McCain because their candidate didn't win the nomination is NOT the same thing as bashing Hillary. I think any Hillary supporter who boasts they are going to vote for McCain DESERVES to be bashed by a true Dem.

-- McCain = Four more years of the same --

As I said

you are blind or another right wing troll. Case closed!

Huh? How did you reach that

Huh? How did you reach that conclusion?

Can you show me some examples of Hillary bashing on this board recently? Remember, bashing Hillary supporters who say they will vote for McCain is NOT the same as bashing Hillary.

So please, if these examples of Hillary bashing are so obvious, surely you can point me to a few? You can't "close the case" without a shred of evidence.

And again, I'm not saying there isn't any evidence, I'd just like you to show it to me. I'm engaging in an open minded discussion with you, I'm hoping to elicit the same from you...

-- McCain = Four more years of the same --

By dtaylo75August 26, 2008 - 4:11pm

Huff's anger stems from two issues.

1. When it became clear that Obama was winning and the race wasn't Hillary's for the taking, the Hillary supporters started calling others names like libtards, etc. Everyone retaliated and gave it back. Huff forgets they started this.

2. When the race was clearly over, Hillary supporters didn't want to hear it. but it was the truth. They are angry we had the temerity to point it out.

Now everything I just wrote was a discussion of what happened to get Huff so upset. I didn't attack Hillary in this post but he is so insane that I'm sure he believes I just did.

By dtaylo75August 26, 2008 - 1:55pm

I think huff is just projecting.

I say every time huff responds with a non sequitur about obamacons, Obama = messiah, libtards supporting McCain, etc. that we just point out what he is doing and stop razzing him. He'll stop after a week.

Why do I get the feeling ...

that puff-puff-pass, when reading a non-existent slam on Hillary, if his head spins faster than Linda Blair's in the Exorcist ...

It's clear that puff-puff-pass can't distinguish between Hillary and her supporters. It's like puff-puff-pass as morphed into Hillary ... he takes everything sooooooooooooooo personally. Says a LOT about his self-esteem ... me thinks puff-puff-pass wasn't hugged enough as a child.

LOL

You are also a third string troll

You are a complete airhead. Your words are like a childs.

Huff - Could you please

Huff - Could you please address these three points? You seem to be dodging them.

To be fair, if you have anything you'd like me to address with respect to my viewpoint, I'd be more than happy to.

1. Show me something in this thread that is bashing Hillary (herself, not her supporters who refuse to get behind Obama).
2. Show me a specific post by a "troll" who is "trying to get McCain Elected" by bashing Hillary.
3. Explain to me how a Hillary supporter who promises to vote for McCain (as about 20% of her supporters do) are not splitting the party.

-- McCain = Four more years of the same --

This is the last time I will say this

If you cant read and understand the bashing of Hillary and her supporters, day in and day out you are blind. It is there for all to see and has been going on for months. Stop asking me stupid questions. SJ and FU are right wing trolls. There is no other logical explanation for their anti Dem smears.

By hufflarry2000August 26, 2008 - 4:12pm

LOL

I knew Huff didn't have the brain power to process those points.

I have the brain power

to figure out that you are a right wing troll.

By hufflarry2000August 26, 2008 - 4:17pm

You don't have the brain power to answer the questions asked of you. Case closed.

Huff, I'm sure all here on

Huff, I'm sure all here on this board will agree that I have shown incredible patience and restraint here in trying to understand your view.

I have been reading, and I see very little bashing of Hillary.

I do see "bashing" of her supporters, sure. And I think that any Hillary supporter who says they'll vote for McCain DESERVES to be bashed?

Don't you?

-- McCain = Four more years of the same --

What "anti-Dem

What "anti-Dem smears"

Please, in return for the patience I've shown you on this issue, please point me to one example of either FU or SJ putting forth han anti-Dem smear.

-- McCain = Four more years of the same --

p.s. I don't consider support for Obama to be an anti-dem smear. And I don't consider bashing the portion of the Hillary supporters who say they'll vote for McCain to be wrong either.
